Not worth 3.5 stars!
by tchan01
My boyfriend and I just got back from eating at this place, and all we can say is that it was the worst dining experience we've had so far in Long Island City.
We had to wait FOREVER for our main course. Our waitress came by and apologized for the wait, and told us it would just be a few minutes. She then finished her shift, and on her way out told us once again that our food would be out soon. That was 20 minutes after she told us the first time! To top it off, as we continued to wait, we did not get a SINGLE acknowledgement from the other waitresses that were standing around.
To top it all off, when we finally got our food, both our dishes were well overcooked. I ordered a pasta with shrimp dish and my boyfriend ordered the skirt steak medium and got it WELL DONE (we're talking brown brown)! If it had not been so late already, he definitely would have sent it back.
I was really annoyed by the whole experience, but my boyfriend was even more so. He's the type of guy that will tip well under almost any circumstance, we're talking minimum 18%. I've never seen him tip less than 15%. We did tonight.
P.S. - I agree with the other reviewer that said not to believe in the 5 star reviews. There is no way this many people could have enjoyed eating at Masso.

Best in the Area

I actually took the time to make an account to give Masso the recognition it deserves. The best appetizers and pizza! Thin crusted and delicious! Not to mention the entrees I've tried, the unbelievable chicken parm, the delicious hamburger on an english muffin, the skirt steak, and the fish! All excellent and wellpriced.
The service was immaculate. They were nice waitresses who talked to me as a friend, offered advice on the menu, and the wine list. The owner, a woman who was helping sit, was friendly to all tables who requested her as far as I could see, I was sure to thank her the first time and every time I've been since. The place itself is cozy for a date, and a nice bar for a drink with friends. Any big game is usually on, or good modern instrumental that fits the style.
I absolutely recommend for all in or coming to NYC!!
- Pros: Food, Service, Style
- Cons: Size
If only...

If only the owner dedicated as much time to recreating the dining experience as he does spending time leaving bogus reviews, I might be leaving a positive review, unfortunately that isn't the case.
The service: Incredible, in how awful it was. I find the previous wine pouring review delightful, we didn't even get poured when the wine was delivered, we were poured a tasting, and she walked away.
The food: Terrible, unless, maybe, you were a penguin, as in the one played by Danny De Vito, not the Happy Feet kind. It was the worst lobster ever, it was so briney, I might as well have bitten into a live lobster.
Ambiance: Great...if it were 1998 and everyone were up for raving. Too bad I left my glo-sticks in my triple fat goose coat.
The decor wasn't bad, but the music made me seize.
Dinner for 2: $100+, the biggest loss wasn't the money, but the disappointment in their lack of caring. I saw several tables, including my own, bring issues up, which the servers brought to a blase owner/manager, which noticeably gestured off, not once visiting any of the complaining tables.
Our first time cautioning against any restaurant, but caution with this one. Masso, NOTSO!
- Pros: easy to get a table, later found out why
- Cons: food, wine, service, music, owner
