  1. love this cozy neighborhood bar/restaurant, and was disappointed to see the two users' negative comments regarding a recent visit to Grape & Grain (during which one of them slipped and fell).
  2. The atmosphere is very inviting with the wood banquettes and nice wrap around bar with open windows.
  3. The atmosphere is that perfect blend of casual yet sophisticated without feeling overwhelming or pretentious.
  4. Great atmosphere, fantastic wine

  1. I've worked in the restaurant industry for years, and finding great food and wine at reasonable prices is difficult to come by in New York City these days.
  2. Casual, Neighborhood, Friendly owner, Excellent wines and good food
  3. We ordered a bunch of plates for the table and a few bottles of wine ( a really delicious pettite syrah was in the mix).
  4. The atmosphere is very inviting with the wood banquettes and nice wrap around bar with open windows.
  5. This place is small, adorable, unassuming and unpretentious, but with a very easy-going, friendly vibe, nice-as-can-be bartenders, and an interesting, well-edited, carefully chosen list of wines and cheeses.
  6. We had some interesting spanish wines, cheese and these tasty chorizo puff pastry appetizers which I am still thinking about.
  7. great place to go with a group of people or for a quiet drink for two.
  8. Moreover, the staff member who buys the wine has selected some excellent, well-balanced bargains (i.e., price points averaging from $30 to $35) for every palette.
  9. As my wife is the wine person, she orderd us a nice bottle of red (I can't remember which one).
  10. Good to know you can get great wine, amazing craft beer and delicious small plates in the neighborhood without all the east village fuss.
  11. The staff is very friendly and patient - pairing wine and cheese platters for people who have no idea what they like.
  12. The waitress/bartender looked like we were annoying her to order a second bottle of wine, to order food etc.
  13. would recommend the meatballs, they were excellent and they had multiple bottles of good wine around $35.
  14. Tis really a shame to write negatively about what seemed to be such a promising hang out--however here is what SaraLazzzer forgot to report in her review of Grape and Grain: After I unknowingly avoided the dastardly wet spot on the floor, I arrived safely
  15. They had some really good beers on draught and we had a really interesting one in a green can.
  16. The owners are friendly and knowledgeable about the wines they feature and the food is pretty good, especially the pizzas.
  17. Great atmosphere, fantastic wine
  18. There are plenty of other more reliable places to grab a nice glass of wine in the neighborhood.
  19. The Rude Barman did not just tell me that I shouldn't stand there, he said, as if annoyed by my happy existence in the bar "WOULD YOU MIND NOT STANDING THERE?

  1. great place to go with a group of people or for a quiet drink for two.
  2. Grape & Grain is a great gem of a place nestled on E. 6th Street between Aves B and C. It' just off the beaten path in the East Village but definitely worth checking out.
  3. This place is a good place to have an "adult" party without spending a fortune.
  4. great place to start an East Village night.

east village gem, extensive craft beer list!

Contributor

we went to grape and grain expecting to have wine. We asked about the sister bar against the grain and the bartender showed an extensive (to say the least) list of eclectic local and import, draft and bottled craft beers (had to be more than 50). They offered to walk over and snag something from the beer menu, which we did. Good to know you can get great wine, amazing craft beer and delicious small plates in the neighborhood without all the east village fuss. We will be back! (P.s. We poked our heads into against the grain before heading home, smaller but very inviting!)

A great night out.

by mdavis212

I went to Grape and Grain this weekend with my wife. She had been there before with a few of her frineds and raved about it. I was pleasantly surprised. The restaurant has an intimate atmosphere and freindly service. I thought the menu was interesting. I had the ribs. My wife had the artichoke pizza. They were both delicious. As my wife is the wine person, she orderd us a nice bottle of red (I can't remember which one). It was really good. We were not rushed out at all, and afterward, decided to check out the bar they have next door. As this is primarily a beer joint, I was in my element. I was surprised that they had Scaldis, which is one of my favorites, and not generally found everywhere. Overall, it was a great time and priced reasonably. I will definitely repeat.

  • Pros: Good beer list, reasonably priced
  • Cons: a bit of a long walk from the subway

birthday reservation

by euterpe291

I recently had my birthday party here- my boyfriend set it up but he said the guy he spoke to was super friendly on the phone. We reserved a table in their next door bar, Against the Grain and it was great for a medium sized group. We ordered a bunch of plates for the table and a few bottles of wine ( a really delicious pettite syrah was in the mix). They had some really good beers on draught and we had a really interesting one in a green can. that our server recommended. Overall it was a nice low key night.

  • Pros: good for groups or a date
  • Cons: place is on the smaller side

I recently went here for my office holiday party. We had some interesting spanish wines, cheese and these tasty chorizo puff pastry appetizers which I am still thinking about. Overall a very good time was had by all.

  • Pros: good wine, tasty chorizo app
  • Cons: a little far east from the subway

Great Wine and Tapas, horrible service

by dabella

I had to try this cute little wine/tapas bar. The atmosphere is very inviting with the wood banquettes and nice wrap around bar with open windows. I would recommend the meatballs, they were excellent and they had multiple bottles of good wine around $35.

However, the only bad part of the night was the service...it was terrible. I mean almost "ignored" terrible. Which surprised me because it didn't even seem packed. The waitress/bartender looked like we were annoying her to order a second bottle of wine, to order food etc. I even had to walk up to the bar to get the check. If it's so busy and popular there should have been another person waiting on the tables. It was also bizzare she mentioned she had to go next door to get beer, perhaps the management/ownership should think of a better method. It would be a wonderful place if not for the dissapointing service.

  • Pros: tapas, wine, atmosphere
  • Cons: service, service, service
