Incredible service, best Mexican food in Manhattan. I just took a client of mine to Mexicana Mama. She had never been there before, and I recommended it for good Mexican food, great atmosphere and impeccable service. We shared the queso flameado to start - A perfect combination of cheese and sausage. I had the pork tacos, and she had the enchilada suiza. The food was unbelievable, and no explanation I can write here will do it justice, --- The more important thing to mention is that this is the kind of place where not only is the service well-paced, but the employees are happy to be there and take the time to make good recommendations. Definitely check it out.

awesome mexican!. Decided to go check this place out the other night. Was blown away...awesome flavored margaritas, the salsa was like none I've ever had before. The burritos we different too so good, they had butternut squash in them! My friend got the enchiladas which were so good. Our service was great...attentive and polite. Will be returning soon.

Average, not authentic mexican. I was a bit disappointed after all the hype around this place.. the place was indeed packed and that made the service slow and a bit rude. My server forgot to bring out our quesadilla appetizer and did not even offer to resend it or any other consolation. Additionally our server was rude when we ordered a pitcher of sangria snapping at us "We only serve drinks by the glass"

The nachos were OK and came with a house special mole salsa which was delicious but before you knew it the small portion of $4.50 nachos was all gone (and of course no free refills even if you have more salsa remaining).

The enchilada was very gooey and not entirely flavourful.. it was drenched in cheese and for a lot less money in the same neighborhood could get a much better enchilada.

The chicken mole burrito was also a bit soggy and nothing special, again for that price could get a much better more authentic burrito around the corner.

The dessert was very good, however. We had the chocolate cake of tres leches which was delicious.

Average food and drinks, rude manager, unpleasant overall. On the plus side, the decor is very pretty, and the waiters were trying to be helpful.

Now, the rest was bad or average at best. My special chicken entree was tiny, dry, and flavorless. My white sangria had too many ice cubes and a piece of lemon...where were the fruits?? Really bland..tasted like water. The apetizers salsa and corn were average. I didn't bother with a dessert, and left hungry...my first time in a Mexican restaurant!

But that's the atmosphere that was the worst for me. It felt like a pretentious Soho meets UES battle of the clones. The tables are next to each other, so there is zero intimacy, and the patrons looked so fake.

The blonde woman manager was really weird and rude. She should not be in this business...Zero people's skills and very unpleasant vibe.

My favorite Mexican is still Rosa Mexicano at the Lincoln Center.

Amazing Mexican. Sometimes the wait can be intimidating, but I've waited longer for food not half as good....also it's very rare that the waits are as long as the estimate. The service is always friendly and knowledgeable and even when busy, ensures that the restaurant experience is above par. The specials are amazing and the decor is adorable. I've never had a bad experience here...my favorite mexican in new york.

Never to Return. I have to say, I've walked past this place a million times and it looked adorable. Looks are deceiving. The staff was EXTREMELY rude. When they finally deliverd our food to the table, the manager chastised us for not ordering enough food. Maybe they should have said something when we put our order in. I don't know how that's even possible since our bill came to $50 a person!!! For Mexican food?? The service was very slow and they repeatedly mixed up our drink orders...meaning they never brought them. The mole sauce was good, but definitely not worth the wait, or the slow, rude service.

Festive atmosphere, good flavor and great service!. The atmosphere here is just what you would want for an informal Mexican restaurant. Cozy and festive. The other location just looked too small for us to enjoy. The house margaritas are good (they are strictly on the rocks) and the menu was expanded greatly by the number of specials, which were inventive and very good. Our service was outstanding. We don't want to set the restaurant up for granting special favors, but when we realized (after arriving) that the policy was "cash only" and we had brought only credit cards, the hostess made arrangements for us to eat first, run home after and settle up before the end of the night (despite the fact that it was our first visit). .

Overpriced and Undernourished.. What kind've a mexican restaurant charges for chips and salsa? Not only that, we were charged more than what it was on the menu beacuse apparantly we got the "special salsa". The margaritas also turned out to be more than originally stated. We got two expensive appetizers, two margaritas, chips and salsa for over $50. And...of course they only take cash. We left feeling like we were robbed...and we were still hungry!!!!

phony & overpriced. This place is stictly for tourists & yuppies who know no better, the restaurant tries to pass itself off as gourmet mexican,it aint! (try La Esquina or Cafe Habana if that's what your looking for) I live down the block from this spot ,me & my girlfriend tried it the other night, the food was indeed diferent from most mexican spots in that none of it tasted mexican, the guacamole was basically some chunks of advacado (for $9) the chips were chewy (basically stale, but i guess we are meant to think this is some kind of delicasy),for entree's we both had grilled chicken with rice & beans, the chicken was dry & the rice & beans were flavorless,so after a few bites we asked for the check.

The check was $80 (they only accept cash & automatically add 18% tip to your bill).

For $80 we had 1 order of salsa,1 order of guacamole,2 orders of grilled chicken w/rice & beans & 1 beer.

I could have saved myself around $60 & had much better & more authentic mexican food had i gone to our regular local spot The Big Enchilada 1/2 a block away.

You live & you learn.
