i eat here about once a week with a few friends.  the food is high-quality and not your typical mexican place.  guac, salsa, corn on the cob, salads, and the tacos are all amazing.  the mahi mahi tacos are really spicy if you like that kinda thing.  also the steak is incredible.  the margheritas are kinda disappointing but other than that, i don't have anything negative to say about this place.

Bext Mexican in NYC!. Best Mexican in NYC!

I love Mexicana Mama! Not only is the food fantastic, (comforting, delicious, with a perfect balance of traditional and modern flavors) but the decor is warm and inviting, and the staff is great!

Mexicana is on of my favorite neighborhood spots. Yes, the space is small on first glance, but I promise once you settle in with a fresh margarita and some guac you won't even notice.

The pork tacos are one of my favorites, and the special salsa is always amazing. The entree specials are also always delicious. I recently had the pistachio crusted snapper served with a spicy chocolate sauce, which was rich but a perfect balance of sweet/spicy/savory yum! my b/f had the fish tacos and they we're also very good.

POISONED! Run away!!!!!!!. My partner and I thought we'd try a new Mexican in the neighborhood. Sat down, service friendly. Ordered two $13 margaritas that came in a shot glass-and only half full. Chips and guac-passable. He ordred special mahi-mahi tacos; small and fish was all flaked inside like it was left-overs. I ordered Checken enchiladas-how can you go wrong here? Terrible flavorless mush. Accompanied by a small bowl of bean mush and cheap rice. 24 hours later I was slammed with food poisoning. And we paid $100 for two!

Great food, friendly service. My friends took me to this place and the food was awesome. Delicious, yummy sauces, tasty dessert, good margaritas, and very friendly service - what more can you ask for? I usually frequent Rosa Mexicano which is very close to where I live, and while Mexicana Mama has less variety and is smaller, the food and service are fabulous. And the wait time is not that long. I highly recommend this place and will go there again.

good food, but claustrophopic seating. The food here is not bad, but they charge you for chips and salsa (unheard of where I come from)! The whole dining experience would be greatly improved by removing a couple of tables. Do they really need to pack us in like sardines, just to make a few extra bucks? We will never go back.

Unbelievable rudeness from the manager, will NEVER go back. On Friday January 2nd around 7:15pm my husband, my brother and I showed up at the restaurant and were told that the wait would be 25 minutes. We put our name down for 3 people.

15 or 20 minutes later, I came back to check on our reservation. There was a couple in front of me who were told that there would be a 5 or 10 minute wait for a table for 2. When the hostess saw me she said the table would be ready in 5 minutes. I said Great!

Two side by side tables for 2 were being freed near the door by the hostess station. After the tables were cleared the hostess pulled a chair from the entrance area and said that she was going to accomodate the 3 of us on one of the tables (for 2) and was going to give the other table to the couple who had arrived 5 minutes before. She was clearly embarrassed to have to say that and she said that her manager wanted to do it this way so that they could have 5 diners in a space made for 4.

Now my husband and my brother are both over 6 ft 2 so there was no way we could squeeze the 3 of us in the space. So we asked to see the manager. She came and defended her point. Take it or leave it. I stressed that we lived here and were no touris, that we'd come to the restaurant regularly, that she could not treat us this way but to no avail. We left, disgusted, and will never go back.

Frankly, the food is not the greatest at this place, they don't accept credit cards, and this is no way to treat paying customers.

If You Like This, You Don't Know Mexican Food And Enjoy Paying Too Much Money. Truly mediocre in every way. The only thing that was good about our meal was the tequila, which they did not make.

$18 fish tacos are a joke. This is Mexican food for people who just don't know better.

I am from Texas and lived for 9 years in California.

This restaurant wouldn't stay open in either of those two states.

crowded but delicious. you can't get in there on a Friday lunch time with the queues out the door. I don't think it was ever meant to be an evening destination, but it is perfect for picking up something on the way home from work! The portions are great, and the food is always tasty. Its all made before your eyes and served extremely quickly - in fact, in less time than many other so called "fast food" places. I for one hope it goes from strength to strength.

Wonderful new find. I found this place walking around and decided to go in. I loved it so much. The ambiance was so pleasant. The restaurant itself is so pretty to look at, great decor. As for the food, it was so fresh and delicious. The sangria was unbelievable too. If you go get the enchiladas, you won't regret it.
