Editorial Review for Trader Joe's – by By Martha Burr

In Short
Founder Joseph Coulombe started this L.A.-based convenience chain 34 years ago. Today, you can get exotic, prepackaged frozen foods, fresh salsas, huge portobello mushrooms, baby artichokes and heirloom tomatoes fresher--and cheaper--than at most supermarkets. Inexpensive meat, fish, coffees and teas, dozens of cheeses, grains and pastas cram the shelves. The frozen section features tasty treats, including barbecue chicken pizzas, mushroom risotto and salmon patties.

I love this place, but the lines are ridiculous! A line down the block to shop after work? I get it, it's a small place and it has delicious goods. If I were you, I'd time the shopping a bit better. Maybe do it on the weekend during the day time. otherwise I love everything Trader Joe's has to offer. They have the nicest staff but my shopping experience is usually uncomfortable, bumping into people, saying sorry, shuffling, etc.

Pros: Great food, Friendly Staff, Location

Cons: Long lines, crowded, Location

I know that sounds dramatic, but its the honest truth. When I first heard of it, I didn't even know what it was and why everyone was making such a big deal about it. I started shopping there and now i do around 90% of my shopping there. Everything is CHEAP and its the best way to eat healthy. I buy prepackaged frozen vegetables, they have all different packs so I can get a few options, I add some of their teriyaki or red curry sauce, sautee it all in a wok and in 10 minutes I have an amazing meal. I also started buying their frozen packs of berries. Strawberries, blueberries and raspberries. I throw them in the microwave to thaw, toss in one small yogurt and its better than an ice cream sundae. Almost everything I buy there (except for cashews) cost around $2.99. The staff is always cool and the selection is great. My ONLY complaint is that the line can be INSANE, which drives me crazy, it literally can run around the store. Typically, I'll go with my fiancee, and one of us will stand in line while the other does the actual shopping so we can save time. I've never been into the wine store so I couldn't tell you about that. Never did I imagine that I could eat fresh, healthy, organic products for that price. I tell all my friends and coworkers to start shopping there. Long Live Trader Joes!

Pros: CHEAP, awesome, healthy, organic products

Cons: THE LINE!!
