What People Are Saying About Cafe Tasia

Featured Review

In Short – NYU students have taken to this budget-friendly spot like it was a student union stand-in. Long communal tables are perfect for the sociable set while daters can slip into a two-top. Wood-slatted walls, tropical greenery and a presiding Buddha make up a stylish backdrop for the Eastern-inspired cuisine, from Japanese soba salad to Malaysian massaman curry to Laotian-style chicken. Desserts, such as chocolate mousse and creme brulee, are straight out of the West.

  1. We started our meal surrounded in the restaurant's stylish decor with the delicious Gyo-Za, the best chicken dumplings in NY!
  2. It's got a nice decor and, for a Thai restaurant, a pretty adversome menu.
  3. good decor, casual, nice and friendly service, and best drinks ever!
  4. This restaurant is great for couples looking for a romantic spot in the back of the restaurant as well as larger groups who will enjoy sitting at the longer, cafeteria-like wooden tables in the middle of the restaurant.
  5. like the ambience, casual and chic.
  6. The one drawback of the restaurant is the extremely tight seating arrangements-- there is one cafeteria style table, great for big groups but not for a romantic dinner.
  7. The atmosphere is cozy and romantic, if a bit loud, and the food tastes decent enough.
  8. It isn't a romantic spot but the design is sleek and bright.
  9. Dinner can be chaotic on the shared bench tables but the ambiance is cool with the floating candles above like you were in Harry Potter but they make it so dark that even people with 20/20 vision can't read the menu.
  10. Great food, attentive & friendly wait staff, and awesome decor.
  11. the food is two thum up, the decor is very very beautiful, and the service is great the owner is very nice.
  12. But it was a comfortable dining/getting wasted experience.
  13. Cafetasia is very affordable for a restaurant that is quite sleek in decor and ambience.
  14. For the location, ambience and actual food, I'd say the prices are really reasonable.
  15. It's a cozy place (not meaning small, it's literally cozy with candles and everything), the food gets to you within 5-15 minutes, depending on what you order and how busy it is.
  16. Wonderful food and atmosphere at great value, perfect for group dining
  17. know i'm stressing price, don't give me wrong the food was great, but you're so blown away when you get your check at the end of dinner you wonder how is it possible to get such good food, nice atmosphere at such a great price, wow.
  18. Usually places with such nice ambience have subpar food or sky-high prices, but Cafetasia was quite the exception.
  19. it's lunch, you're usually getting in and out and you dont expect great atmosphere.
  20. the ambiance is really good, though the sitting could be a problem as it has a long table more like school cafeteria.

  1. It makes for a nice presentation when the waiter pours a saucer of (presumably) sherry or some other high-alcohol volume liquor over the ball of yummy vanilla ice cream and ignites it for effect.

Worst Service I have ever seen !!!!

by SASman

Myself and six coworkers decided to have lunch there today.... as soon as we sat down it was downhill from there. First, the noise level is totally unbearable, don't expect to actually talk to anyone while eating. Second, appetizers came out one at a time over a span of 20 minutes. Then, three of the main courses came out, and the rest were never to make an appearance.... we ended up canceling the remaining orders.... all they did for us was NOTHING!!!

It's unfortunate because the food that we did get was fairly tasty.

They just lost about 300 potential customers since I will make sure everyone in my office is aware of this bad service.

Worst Service of My Life.

by CityGrl9

Okay, so the hosts, runners and busboys were good. I understand that the restaurant is very fast paced, but our waitress was very rude. I've never had a waitress with such an attitude. She basically threw the plates on the table. I was with two friends, and they were sitting on the opposite side of me. She put the plates all on my side so my friends had to reach across the table to get their food. She was also rude when I asked about the menu. My friends and I weren't happy with her service at all, so we gave a dollar tip. She deserved none actually. She did basically nothing. As we were about to walk out of the door she runs to stop us and yells at us; "YOU GAVE ME NO TIP. I SHOULD GET AT LEAST FIVE DOLLRS." um...hell no? We were so shocked we just took out our wallets. I regret paying the tip that the waitress demanded. I've never heard of such bullsh*t in my life. The food was good but I seriously hate the restaurant now because of that b*tch. Who the hell stops people as they are walking out the door, demanding a fricking tip? I'm a waitress, and I know for a fact that she doesn't deserve sh*t. Not only that, she was standing over us with her hands on her side, making sure we were giving her money!! I know the "Eh" rating isn't very fair because I did enjoy the food, but the waitress really ruined everything..I've never been in such a bad mood after eating at a restaurant.

Awesome Thai/Japanese fusion type place!

by foodlover219

I've never had a bad experience here. Amazing food, great prices, awesome service. It's a cozy place (not meaning small, it's literally cozy with candles and everything), the food gets to you within 5-15 minutes, depending on what you order and how busy it is. I recommend the Malaysian Laksa if you want something with the sweet Thai peanut sauce kind of flavor. If you want spicy, go for the Basil Udon with chicken. That chicken had practically soaked up the flavors so that you tasted all the spices in every single bite. The Thai iced tea is generally a safe choice for a drink, and Cafetasia is no exception. Warning to those of you who are not students - this place is often crowded with NYU students during peak lunch hours!

Asia in da House!

by flipcityguy

Located on 8th Street that caters to NYU students - this trying to be hip Asian restaurant has been a place I go to for good cheap eats on different occasions. You can't beat the $3 on cocktail drinks during Happy Hours (before 7 PM on weekdays) and the choice of small, medium, large and XL plates. The Crispy Calamari is a standby and the Pad Thai. Dinner can be chaotic on the shared bench tables but the ambiance is cool with the floating candles above like you were in Harry Potter but they make it so dark that even people with 20/20 vision can't read the menu. The service seems to be abrupt at night and you better make sure you have everything like water and extra hot sauce because the servers are hard to flag down. Brunch is the best time to go where it is quieter and even though they blast house music that early, you tolerate it for the Japanese Seafood Pizza and the Fried Chicken (a whole leg - not the drumstick only) with fried rice which goes well with Lychee martinis. Although they burnt my pizza and had me wait as they made a new one - they comped me an extra appetizer to tide me over. Cafetasia can be spotty at times but you can't beat the price for the food with chic on the side.

  • Pros: Cheap prices, great happy hour, nice brunch
  • Cons: spotty service, unbearable noise at night, too dark
