“The atmosphere is incredibly cool and different, not stodgy or testosterone-laden like other steak joints, and my non-steak-eating friends were just as enthusiastic about their meals.”
“Coconut cream dessert was also luscious.”
“The bar prices are a lot more reasonable than other steakhouses, and the wine list had good choices.”
“We began with a mix of meats and cheeses from the Charcuterie Bar, which were divine.”
“On previous visits, we've ordered food at the bar - great selections of cheeses to go with the great wine list.”
“The ambience is great, with dim lighting and the place is beautifully decorated with wine bottles everywhere, and the food is absolutely amazing.”
“loved my dining experience at Quality Meats and will certainly be back.”
“Crispy friend potatoes arrived as described, but were hard to finish (we ate a LOT for two people), and the cheddar grits were an incredible invention.”
“The bar prices are a lot more reasonable than other steakhouses, and the wine list had good choices.”
“If you're up for a pricey steak, I'd recommend BLT Steak or Wolfgang's - Quality Meats has a long way to go before it can compete - or justify its price tag.”
Not for me of my friends..
I really do not understand the good reviews this restaurant has received.
I am an avid restaurant goer, and this is the first time I have left a table with the food PAID and barely touched.
First they brought a small starter that looked like potatoes. It was pears that we could not even swallow.
Usually the restaurants I go to serve you bread and butter that you cannot stop eating. Here, they served us bread that makes you stop eating and wanting to put away the piece you have in your mouth.
Following the advice of a reviewer, we ordered some salads but they were really terrible… We consumed one of them because we were hungry, but I really had to force myself to do it. I ended taking the salad from my plate back to the bowl. I had never done that in my life.
I started to think, how sad…. Such a well rated meat restaurant with such horrible side dishes. I said to myself, the meat should be excellent if they can obtain such good reviews in spite of the appetite losing non edible food they started us with.
Was I wrong! We had ordered two meat entrees. The food looked really terrible. Still I decided to give the chef a chance and started to try the food. Really, I do not understand where they got the good reviews. There must be something wrong with me. I ordered my bill, paid it without looking at it and even left some tip. I just wanted to get out of there ASAP without making a scene.
I am not one to say, don’t go there. Certainly I will not recommend this restaurant to any of my friends. However, I hope you have better luck than we did
To me, this is one of the worst restaurants I have ever been to.
Talk about Quality!.
Tried the Restaurant Week menu.
I had the scallops with creamed corn, hanger steak with brandied cherries and coffee and doughnuts ice cream. My friend had the steak tartare, baby back ribs and the mint chocolate chunk ice cream.
I'd ordered my hanger steak medium well but it came out more like medium. My friend didn't like the whole egg yoke in her steak tartare and would've preferred it already mixed into the meat. Otherwise, the food was outstanding--meat so tender we hardly chewed.
We were seated on the second level, it was darker and noiser upstairs. Decor was warm and cozy inside and unexpected from the white facade of the restaurant.
Service was efficient and fast.
Quality Meats indeed!.
At first i think their name is corny. However, after I finally made a visit here, I realized the name says it all. Everything here is quality, really.
Their house bread is very special and it actually looks like a butt! It has 4 halves and is very fluffy and seasoned with sea salt. I can't resist but had almost the whole bread.
We ordered the avocado with crab for appetizer. The portion is kind of tiny but sufficient for two people. Freshly cut avocado paired with flavorful crab meat makes a great match.
Then, we got the Porter House for two, which is really really flavorful. The meat is cooked to just right and it melts right in your mouth. The seasoning is simple but very very tasty. The portion is perfect for 2 with leftover.
We also got a side of crispy potatoes and Yorkshire Creamy Spinach. The crispy potatoes is not just fries; it is actually hand-cut potatoes deep fried served with rosemary and salt. The creamy spinach comes in a bread bowl and the bread is actually crispy buttery on the outside and creamy spinach in the inside.
So we think we were done eating at this point but we decided what the heck. We needed to order one of their homemade ice cream. We got the Chocolate swirl donuts with ice cream and it is absolutely amazing!
Birthday, February 2008. Website and recommendations for this place made it sound like it would be worth a trip into the city on a wintry night. done and done!
The decor of this place just makes you feel cool. Big crowd at the bar living it up, no worries, the bar isnt near the tables wont distract a quiet dinner. Sure the place is kind of tight, it is NYC though, we are here to eat not square dance.
Our waitress wasnt rude...I will call her sassy, we had such a good time she was spot on and took care of us so nicely.
Thoroughly enjoyed the bone marrow, not something you see on the menu in most places.
Really enjoyed the steak and dinner and atmosphere.
Waitress offered me the "chocolate brownie" cake, I told her that was my nickname in high school....she snaps right back "cause you used to crap your pants" I smiled and fell in love.
She had the kitchen staff really dress up our deserts for my birthday. I was completely satisfied and looking forward to go back, hopefully the waitress will be there.
I enjoyed it so much that I kept a napkin with the "QM" embroidered on it.
Great Modern NYC Steakhouse. this is an excellent modern NYC steakhouse. the portions are fairly big and the food is excellent. it is a fairly priced steakhouse. a bottle of wine, one appetizer (raw oysters), 2 entrees and a dessert for about $200. that's still a pretty good deal for midtown manhattan.
Big let down. First, I had a reservation and upon arrival, I could not figure out what sins I could have committed in my life to get such a terrible table for 2; they squeezed me between two other tables and my elbows were literally almost scraping those of the people dining next to me. I could not even hold a conversation with my wife.. Nest was a Caesar salad that LITERALLY LOOKED AND TASTED like it was the pre-made bagged salad and dressing that you get at the supermarket!! It was $13 - $14 and I couldn't get past 3 bites! The bone in ribeye has gotten smaller than my last visit here over a year ago! It could be me, but I'm convinced that this restaurant's strategy is to keep or raise prices, but cut quality, portions, etc in attempt to boost margins in these difficult times. My bill w/ tax / tip was $250 and we did not even have a bottle of wine – I had a few beers and my wife had a glass of wine. Lastly, our waiter was pushy, cold and rushed us. In conclusion, this place needs to do a better job on its food or else folks like me will never go back; I personally will never. There are way too many choices of high quality steakhouses in NYC – for these prices, if you push customers too far, they will vote with their feet and wallets…
Their meats are not Qualiity, everything else is though..
I would give this restaurant 1 star if it weren't for their awesome appetizers, side dishes, and ice cream. If they had the steaks to match, that would be easily a 4-5 star restaurant. However, the filet was chewy and poorly prepared. The inside was raw (I ordered medium) but the outside was already so charred and chewy that I didn't dare send it back for further brutality. If you've already been to the other high end steak houses in NYC several times and want to try something new, go to Quality Meats. But if you want something for a special occasion or if you're not yet tired of the other NYC steak houses, skip Quality Meats. You'll find better filets at Outback.
If you do go, skip the Parmesan fries, they're nothing special. The corn creme brulee was great. I cannot recommend the crab cake strongly enough. Best part of the meal.
Cool-looking for Staekhouse.
I found our waitress just short of rude.
She seemed openly annoyed by my questions and impatient.
And I most especially didn’t like them putting their hands on
the top of my glass to make room on the table.
Not only did we get their germy hands on the top of our glasses …
they mixed up the glasses so that we had to guess which one was which.
I also never saw the wine bottle nor the water bottle to see if we
had drank it all. That is unusual.
My salad was nearly impossible to eat in the bowl that it came in.
The chopped salad was probably fine .. but there was no way to cut
up the lettuce in the bowl and it was much too large to get into
my mouth. I just gave up and quit trying to eat it.
My steak had virtually no flavor. If I didn’t have the au poivre sauce,
I wouldn’t have eaten it.
The bread was excellent and the parmesan fries were good and the
blueberry tart was good, asparagus was okay … not great.
Even if my filet would have been cooked properly … it would have still been
the worst filet that I even had a nice restaurant. In fact, the Longhorn
Restaurant chain filet’s are even better than what we ate at Quality Meats.
Definitely not worth what we paid for the dinner.
Didn’t hate it … but did hate that it cost so much for such an average dinner
Served up fatty Veal Chops.
The good: Cool ambience
The bad: 4 of us just went there last night. 3 of us ordered the veal chop (all medium rare). When we finally got them, all 3 were cooked medium well to well done so we sent them back.
The ugly: 30-40 mins later after we got round 2, they were all "rare", barely edible and had to be the 3 fattiest pieces of meat that they probably carved away for the night and labeled as "not for use". We learnt our lesson and should have stuck with the well done original portions that we received. Abruch!
Great for Reunions. Had a blast here! All the fixings of a top-notch NYC steakhouse, a butcher who knows what he's doing, but a relaxing laid-back attitude that makes you feel right at home ie: PBR tall cans on the drinks menu. Met up here with a bunch of old college friends and we were back to our old shenanagins in no time. Ample seating and good spacing gives you the comfort to speak freely without thinking that half of manhattan is listening in to your conversation.
