AMAZING Massaman Curry Chicken..
The service here, on my one visit, was so-so. Not great, but not bad.
I ordered the "Pad Gra Prow" (Chicken sauteed with fresh basil, garlic, bell pepper and chili). I ordered it 3 out of 4 stars for spicy. It was very good. I've had this dish in many places, and this was one of the best. Pretty presentation also.
BUT..... My friend ordered the Massaman Curry Chicken (brown curry with potato, onion, peanuts, cinnamon and cumin) and it was the best Massaman I've ever had! He ordered it 2/4 spicy, which was nice.
The Chicken Sate was not very good. Four VERY small skewers of chicken. The peanut sauce that came with it was kind of gross (and I LOVE sate peanut sauce). It was syrupy and sickly sweet, with no spice to it whatsoever.
The Thai Iced Tea was good. Just the right strength (I don't like it when they're watered down tasting, as Thai Iced Tea can be at some places).
It took me a while to get a waitress to come over and take our drink/appetizer order. She was just sitting at the bar looking around. There was a busboy who was very good at keeping water glasses filled, which is a must in a Thai restaurant.
I will absolutely go back for the Massaman Chicken, but I will skip my my favorite Thai appetizer: Chicken Sate. :(
RUDE OWNER !.
this place put too much MSG in the food ,i had to drink tons of water.i knew it right away.
The owner was ver rude whe we complained about the beef that we got.it was really hard to chew,i let my friend try it and he said the same thing.I told him very nicely that i couldn't barely eat it but he was very very rude and said things that disrepect me. I'll never come back here again !
--- some of my friends that been to this restaurant said that this restaurant's owner NEVER care about his customers.
ALERT : DO NOT GO THERE
Good food, great prices. I had to write my review after looking at the bad review. Every single time I have been here the food is good, inexpensive, and the staff is extremely accommodating. I have come with groups as large as 20 and they have been great. Oh yeah, and every time I have been there they had the ginger candy.
Unfair Posted. I wanna explain what was going on for the comment below. First is the ginger candy is a big deal for you? Second the stickyrice and mango that you order....I am wonder if you do remember the wait staff that she kindly inform you that we ran out of mango and she even try to called the other store to check for you. I cant believe that you blam everything to the wait staff...if the restaurant ran out of the mango is that the staff fault?? We just do our job to tell you and that is it. The reason why the mango ran out is the restaurant try to find the sweet one not just the sour one that sell on the corner ,if we wanna make money we could sell whatever mango to you. Oh by the way you didnt pay for your drinks 2 thai ice tea remember that? cuz you were mad that we ran out of mango also no TIP. You like to dine in the cheap restaurant and looking for 5 stars service??? wrong place mam. You should shame on yourself that you post unfair and unreal comment. PS pls find your own ginger candy
Mixed Bag. We have always had a good experience here in terms of food. Location is close enough to the theatre and that is huge plus however on the down side the service is always unenthusiastic to say the least. Last Sunday we were looking for the ginger candies they always have on one's way out and we were told there were none. This, mind you, on a Memorial Day weekend when they must know people will be frequenting the place. We were also told when ordering the Mango with sweet sticky rice that they were out of mangos. No attempt to run down the block to the fruit place to get one either. Do not order the crabmeat in tofu wrap which is dismal, however the Pinapple fried rice with shrimp was quite good. The chicken satay is also the best we have had and is consistent as we have ordered this many times before. Portions are good but they really have to perk the waitstaff up here. A mixed bag to say the least.
What happened?. We went out the other night to enjoy our new favorite thai restaurant Pam Real Thai. We enjoy the layered flavors, the prices and don't mind the fairly utilitarian decore. The 49th street restaurant was busy and the ower kindly suggested we try the other restaunt and called ahead for us. We were very excited-imagine, 2 great restaurants! I was a bit warry of the east village hipster decor and found it odd that there were no pictures of the King of Thailand (a usual sign of some authenticity). We wanted to keep it simple so only ordered 2 appetizers,a salad and a noodle dish. It was surprising how long it took them to bring us satay, clam cakes and crispy chicken salad. The chicken was so salty, we had to order rice-the waitress was baffled why we were asking for rice when none of the things we ordered included rice. When the noodles arrived, they were barely edible-it seemed the person who had made them had only a crude understanding of Thai seasoning- and compensated by adding more salt. It was quite clear Pam does not work at Encore! Although the dinner crowd had settled in, the place was not hecticly crowded - despite this, our water was only refilled once and it took over 10 minutes to recieve change from the bill. Although these issues would be just be a write off in any other restaurant - we were shocked that such a great Place like Pam's would allow such shoddy behavior and inedible food in their sister restaurant! Please Pam, overhaul the kitchen and review the staffs" behavior at Encore - or take your name off the sign.
Ditzy service, but the food's still good. My mother was Thai, and she was also a "foodie." I grew up eating great Thai food, here and in Thailand, and can safely assert this is authentic food. Pam Real Thai Encore doesn't try to wow Western palates with how shockingly spicy Thai food can be, or how creative the chef can be. No need for that, when "normal" Thai food is so good. Sometimes, the waitresses here can be ditzy (e.g. forgetting my drink order, or requiring a 5-minute explanation before putting my young coconut juice over shaved ice), but the worst don't seem to stay long. Their lychee drink is amazingly good. The ice cream with Thai fruits is not what it sounds like, but very Thai (i.e. creamy, plain ice cream loaded with sweet corn and some random dried fruit). The decor is bizarre, but nicer than the original PRT, and the food is priced either exactly the same, or very similarly.
The Tasteless Thai Food.
People are nowadays looking for an inexpensive food with the yummy taste. We ate at Pam real Thai encore for that reason but very disappointed and ate tasteless Thai food. The Pad Thai was very oily and tasteless. The service was ok but did not look a professional one. We would rather pay more prices and expect the better food and service. This is not perhaps The Pam real thai but the fake Thai. Or may be Thai food really goes down the hill. I am personally suggested that Thai restaurants before named the place like
real thai, please make sure the food is tasty not tasteless. Thank you.
Nice addition to the neighborhood.
I think it's the hip "younger sibling" of Pam Real Thai. I'd been to Pam Real Thai many times & just happened upon "Encore" the other day while walking home.
I was in a hurry, so I ordered some take-out. The decor is hip, fun, & the hostess was really nice while I was waiting. (Not the mention the hot guy behind the bar...) I got Fried Tofu and some Spring Rolls. It's probably not a big deal to most, but the fact that there were four rolls instead of the usual three with other places, was a nice (and yummy) surprise.
I also liked the fact that the food was kept in heater bags to keep warm. Most places put it in plastic containers which makes it a bit cold by the time I get home.
I look forward to going back when I'm not in a rush.
TOO MUCH USING OF MSG IN THE FOOD. We have a great expectation about this new coming Thai place but very dissatisfy. The foods were too dried and too salty. And we don't understand why they use japanese waitress to serve Thai food. They had seemingly not acknowledged Thai dishes well on the menu. It is also too much of using MSG in the food. We had to drink a lot of water.
