Not closed, Good food, would eat here again, but has a few quirks. I here on a rainy Sunday evening, and found the overall experience to be very good. We had a calamari salad appatizer that was a nice size portion, fresh and not chewy calamari, but a little on the spicy side. We had to wait for a while, considering we were one of two tables eating dinner at 8:30, but otherwise service was very attentive. Dinner was also worth the wait. I had a hanger steak sandwich, which was cooked just right, topped with swiss cheese, bacon, fried shoe-sting onions and BBQ sauce. Desert menu was limited, and they only serve beer and wine. They also only accept cash, which was a surprise when we paid the bill. Luckily we didn't have to run out in the downpour, but I felt there should have been some kind of sign to let us know.

The story with this place is that the previous owners (when the restaurant was called Diner Bar) are now the current owners after a brief period of being closed and owners changing hands. It seems there are some politics involved, and they have a much smaller menu then before, bot overall it was a good experience and I will likely eat there again.

Out Of Business???. I live in the area and frequently pass this place, wondering whats going on. I get a beer at the bar occassionally and being in the business myself, talk with the chefs. I stopped by today to say hi and a french guy told me that all the kitchen staff quit.

I hope this location can make it because I heard that the food used to be real great when they first opened!!

What a find!. i can't say enough good things about this place! A friend had been there a few times and suggested it when I was looking for a place to host a "birthday" dinner. I checked it out - and the atmosphere was great - subtle lighting, exposed brick, great bar and room to move among tables. Better yet - the menu - with just enough items to make a decision - offered something for everyone at incredibly reasonable prices! Highly recommended by those attended are the Steak frites, the Fish Tacos and the Scallops. The service was considerate, personable, and attentive. I'm excited about having such a great place in the UES neighborhood - and finally - a place to eat that won't risk the rent check! Looking forward to going back!

Editorial Review. Serving oyster tacos, salads, soups and sadwiches as well as macaroni and cheese, to name a few.

A very good restaurant. We really enjoyed our dinner here. My girlfriend had the fish tacos and I had the oyster tacos. They were both excellent. Their desserts are TASTY. The atmosphere is very cool...good service all around very nice dining experience. We will be back!

Pleasant Neighborhood Restaurant. Enjoyable atmosphere and very good seafood. If you are looking for a place to relax and enjoy good seafood on the upper east side without having to wait, then this is the place. Very good wine selection without breaking the bank.

Hugely disappointing. After reading the good review in New York magazine, a friend and I ventured up for Saturday brunch - mistake. This "seafood" restaurant does not even serve seafood at lunch; and the specials listed on the wall; not available until after 5pm. The service added in the disaster with a waiter who couldn't have cared less. At the end of lunch (the only time the waiter came back) we were asked how everything had been and said it was okay to which he scoffed as if we were kidding. We were kidding actually - it had been completely nondiscript. There was absolutely nothing special about this place and I'm sorry to say there are MANY better places further south that there is no point in making a return visit.

Welcome addition to the neighborhood. The restaurants on the upper UES are almost uniformly unexceptional, so it is great to have a solid performer like "food" open and doing well. It is a well put-together place, with friendly service and a good vibe. The dishes are simple and tasty, and although I'd like to see a bit more variation, the quality of the ingredients seems high.

One great thing is their corkage policy, which at $5 per bottle, must be one of the most reasonsble in town. Best to bring your own glasses if you're drinking something good though, but it is a great way to have decent seafood without the smell remaining in your apartment!

worth a visit. its nice to have a new restaurant like Food in the area. The restaurant's relaxed vibe, good wine list and selection of food make it a great find in an area where there are not alot of options. Worth a visit.

nice addition to the area. Now that this place has been open a while the menu and service are right up there with some of the best in the area. I go there regularly for brunch to avoid UES crowds and they always have great fresh fish and affordable prices. Nice vibe, good food and change of scenery.
