Brooklyn's favorite cheesecake place has hopped the river, catering to Manhattanites and tourists alike smack in the center of Times Square.

ambiance
100.0% positive
  1. However, the decor and actual restaurant is very nice but thats only because its decked up more because of Times Square locale and the fact its the newest one out there.
  2. The ambiance is nothing spectacular, but I guess it's a good place to just relax and watch all the people go by.
  3. The location was perfect.

  1. The cheesecake was very good, but I've had better.
  2. So in conclusion- Id suggest going for dessert at an unpopular hour to avoid the rush.
  3. If you like chewing on a hunk of cream cheese you probably won't like Junior's.
  4. They have GREAT cheesecake!
  5. The food was delicous and of course the cheesecake was the best.
  6. don't know how they earned their rep for being the "best cheesecake in town" because I've tasted better.
  7. If you like your dessert- you would love the cheesecake that is covered in strawberries- whole strawberries, mind you.
food quality

  1. Worst service ever, which would be excusable if the food were any good!
  2. The service has been surprisingly very decent here, despite the semi-high prices for diner quality food.
  3. Because the food is not good!
  4. The cheescake is YUMMY but the food is just so-so.
  5. If you MUST have a full meal, then cross the bridge into Brooklyn and go to the original Junior's restaurant in Brooklyn!
  6. It was absolutely delicious but the meal was not to die for and the service was not so great either.
  7. They don't care about you one bit, and they don't even know how to make good deli food.
  8. The manager was nasty, and incidentally so was the food.
  9. The only complaint I have is that the food was expensive, which I guess is to be expected in Times Square area.
  10. would not recommend Junior's for a meal, sandwich or anything else but (say it with me, people) the CHEESECAKE!
  11. had a great steak burger there, but other than that, meh.
  12. The food was delicous and of course the cheesecake was the best.
menu variety
75.0% positive
  1. There was a short wait to be seated which gave me enough time to look over the HUGE menu.
  2. The menu is misleading, listing lunch and dinner prices for entrees.
  3. They have an extensive menu with just about everything you could imagine.
  4. think they should ax the huge menu and focus on fewer items and do them well!

  1. Crowded, but a good place to hang out after a broadway show
  2. The ambiance is nothing spectacular, but I guess it's a good place to just relax and watch all the people go by.
  3. It was a VERY busy establishment which USUALLY means that it's a good place to go -- we were right!

  4. lost my appetite and didn't even bother the waitress-not like it would have mattered.
  5. But so much happened that I dont know where to start: the waitress was a joke- she was just too busy and was not able to give good service.
  6. haven't had a such a friendly, competent, and attentive waiter in a long time.

Clearly not interested in creating repeat customers

by merryweather65 at Citysearch

Based on lack of customer service, I would not recommend Juniors.

On a lunch trip to Juniors in July 2010, my mother-in-law suffered an injury which now, 9 months later, still has not been rectified. During lunch, my mother-in-law went to the ladies room. When she walked in the door, the janitor accidently sprayed a heavy cleaning chemical in her face. While this was unintentional on the part of the cleaning person, my mother-in-law suffered severe burns and eye strain. The injury was so extensive, she and her friends had to cut-short their Day Trip and my mother-in-law had to go the doctor as soon as she returned home. At the time, the Manager was apologetic and offered to comp the meal. After making the gesture, he quickly disappeared, and never followed through on his promise.

I'm writing this review, because I think it's unacceptable that Juniors would treat a customer like this. While I can't speak to the quality of the food, this incident clearly demonstrates terrible customer service and lack of respect for visitors to NY.

This is a "tourist trap," and clearly Juniors has little regard for creating repeat customers.

Great breakfast.........watch out for tips included in bill.

by meesh18 at Citysearch

A group of us went here for breakfast and had a great time. The food was delicous and of course the cheesecake was the best. The wait staff was very accomodating to our group, they actually held a table for us for a 1/2 hour. The only complaint I have is that the food was expensive, which I guess is to be expected in Times Square area. Watch out for the final bill the wording can be very tricky, the receipt says the amount of the 'suggested' tip is 15-18%, instead of saying that the 18% gratuity was already included in the bill. Buyer beware of the service charge on your bill, that is the tip....

above average desert

by kelismomma28 at Citysearch

Definitely go here knowing that thier specialty is the deserts. They are pricy and the server was rude and not attentive (Betty). We made 3 trips ther while in NYC for the red velvet cake and carrot cheescake.

  • Pros: deserts
  • Cons: service and it was cold in there

average across the board

I agree with most of the reviewers here. The cheescake is YUMMY but the food is just so-so. One note about the devils food and carrot cake cheesecakes is that there are layers of actual cake mixed in with layers of cheesecake. If you are a cheesecake purist, you will probably find that a little weird. The cake part was moist though and tasted good to me! I ordered a salad, it wasn't very cold and it was drowning in dressing. The service was awesome!! I haven't had a such a friendly, competent, and attentive waiter in a long time. There was a short wait to be seated which gave me enough time to look over the HUGE menu. All in all, I would recommend Juniors only for the cheescake. I think they should ax the huge menu and focus on fewer items and do them well!

Just OK Food But Excellent Cheesecake

by huskyduck at Citysearch

Junior's made their name with their cheesecake and it definitely didn't dissapoint. The crust was flaky and thin but still held up without falling apart. The cheesecake itself was incredibly smooth and light. Too often cheesecake can be super sludgy and heavy and that can leave the diner feeling ultra guilty or ill after eating a piece. Junior's cheesecake slices are moderatly sized so that a normal human can consume one with minimal guilt. Junior's does serve other deli styled food, which are average compared to what you can get at other New York delis but it is definitely worth a visit, even if just for the cheesecake.

  • Pros: Incredibly smooth and light cheesecake
  • Cons: Just average deli food
