Editorial Review for Burgers & Cupcakes – by Erin Behan
In Short
Bright pink and orange hues dominate the small restaurant, one of few inventive lunchtime destinations on this stretch of 9th Avenue. The "burgers" in the name means not just beef, but turkey, salmon, chicken, mushroom and veggie--with the option of 14 different toppings including cheese, vegetarian chili and double-thick bacon. A basket of fries can be had unadorned or with cheese and chili. No surprise that for dessert, patrons choose from six different cupcakes.

this place is my favorite restaurant in new york. first of all, skip the fries, theyre mediocre and the burger will fill you up. the buffalo burger is the best, its big and juicy and paired with the mango salsa, its heaven. a respectable selection of toppings and burger options make it really fun to try and imagine which combination will be the most delicious. ostrich with avocado and pepper jack cheese is another delicious choice. and now to the cupcakes. they are big and moist and 10 times better than places like magnolia. i had the chocolate raspberry, which was as beautiful as it was tasty. dinner was about $30 for two, (2 burgers, fries, and drinks), which isnt too bad, especially for the utter deliciousness of the food. service was decent.
Pros: deliciousness!, decent prices
Cons: fries arent great here

Reading the reviews here before going, I expected a mediocre meal. I didn't see how anybody could ruin something as simple and delicious as burgers and cupcakes. To start off, the floor of the place was covered with wood shavings for some reason. After being seated, an cranky pregnant waitress waddled over and begrudgingly took my order. After disappearing for a good half an hour, I got my food. The staff all seem to think they're too good to be working there or something, acting bored, lazy, and stupid. The food was okay (nothing special) and the cupcakes are ridiculously expensive. I paid something like 4 dollars for a cupcake half the size of my fist. Bad service, bad atmosphere (the place is across the street from a sad looking parking area), and average food. Don't bother, not even just for the novelty.
Pros: Novelty idea
Cons: Everything else
