Editorial Review for Jumelle – by Kelly Phillips

In Short
A carefully edited selection of women's clothing, which tends towards seasonally trendy, loose styles in both bright colors and earth tones, plus shoes and accessories, call this narrow Brooklyn storefront home. Owner Candice Waldron favors trendy French designers like A.P.C. and Paris-based Erotokritos, a rare find in the States, but doesn't buy exclusively from France. Look for her showroom selections from Los Angeles-based Development and Grey Ant, amid many others.

Eh, sorry...but Jumelle isn't all that unique. Perhaps for Williamsburg (but still, Oak and Ylli carry much more unique and fashion-forward stuff), but not for the city. If anything, these girly-type boutiques are a dime a dozen right across the river. That said, the shop is clean and the clothes are organized well...but the owner is a bit self-absorbed and disingenuous. Instead of being honest about things that were too big on me (I know what my size is, I'm over 35, sheesh!), she kept saying that everything looked good, great, awesome, blah blah. Sorry, but I'd rather spend my hard-earned money at boutiques where the people working will at least be honest about how things look on me...instead of so flagrantly pushing sales.

Pros: clean, well-organized airy space

Cons: not such a unique selection...you can find these labels in so many other boutiques

The selection in Jumelle is stellar... Everything from the window displays to the friendly helpful staff is appealing. I have to avert my eyes walking by it or I can too easily spend WAY more than I ought to. Of course it's not for bargain hunting, but nothing is inflated beyond its worth. As a shop with hard to find brands and a buyer with an eye for truly beautiful pieces, Jumelle is a delight to visit.

Pros: Beautiful clothing, great sense of style, helpful and friendly staff

Cons: I spend too much money there? Not their fault really...
