Devin Tavern

An Upscale American Tavern

  • Indoor Fireplaces
  • Private Rooms

Located in TriBeCa, Devin features exquisitely prepared, approachable food and drink, served in an upscale setting of rich wood flooring and tables, luxurious high-back leather banquettes, substantial fireplaces and exposed brick walls, all accented with hand forged iron sconces, plaster molded finishes, Venetian-plaster and ruby-red, etched glass cocktail shakers.

The latest destination from John Mautone and Michael Waterhouse- the restaurateurs behind the highly successful Dylan Prime- Devin Tavern is under the supervision of Executive Chef Derrick Styczek, whose kitchen features contemporary interpretations of New American cuisine with global accents, as well as variations of signature dishes such as the Field & Stream composed of Guinness Braised Short Rib & Crawfish Cassoulet and "Tattooed" Wild Boar Chop.

Editorial Review for Devin Tavern – by Justin Hartung

The Scene
From the folks behind Dylan Prime, this more casual restaurant and tavern is smartly designed to appeal to both neighborhood families and Financial District folks eager to drink away stress one neighborhood away from their offices. Brick arches, anchor-shaped wall lamps and French windows nod to the nabe's more domesticated sensibility, while the long bar lined with televisions attracts the high-fiving suits.

The Food
As at big brother Dylan, red meat is king here. Thick, grassy-flavored filet mignon dons caramelized onions, a perfectly salted veal reduction and creamy mashed potatoes, while seared lamb boasts a surprisingly subtle jalapeno-honey glaze. Be warned, however: Orders come on the rare side. Other dishes stumble, including a dry trout starter awkwardly paired with mango and a mushroom flan whose earthy flavor gets overwhelmed by a too-mushy consistency. For dessert, delectably tart Stone Peach Melba with buttermilk ice cream updates family fare right.

Insider Tips

What to Drink

Classic twists on cocktails get in the zone, especially the Ruby Rye made with port and a straight-up sidecar rimmed with lemon rind sugar. Wines by the glass start at $10 and the list leans heavily on California varietals.

Private Rooms

The Raleigh Room, featuring a private entrance hall and two flat-screen TVs, holds 20 guests. The Glen, separated from the main dining room by a glass wall and doors, seats 40 for dinner.

Where to Sit

Diners looking for a quieter meal should sit in the far left corner of the space, away from the buzzing bar and TV screens.

A bit sleepy in a sleepy neighborhood, go figure. Was sent by a colleague at work. The girl at the door was really nice. The food was tasty although not excellent--it was 90 degrees and my grill cheese sandwich with lobster was alright but so heavy and rich. I only ate half. The Mrs. had a crab salad that was excellent. Before we shared a ham plate. It came out on this neat cutting board. The hams were good, but the homemade honey-glazed pretzels that came with it were better. The drinks were on-point. Get the Caiparinia (sp?). It's spicy and refreshing. Oh, and the beefeater is as good here as usual (hehe...) The peach pie was delicious. The coffee tasted old. The server was competent. Everything was expensive but not outrageous. The room is nice but so big, dark and cavernous with literally, hundreds of candles. I'll go back, but in October or November when it gets cold and that grilled cheese seems more appropriate.

...let me guess. you were the table of rude asians. while a b u g on the table is not the norm, it is by no means a huge deal. its the summer. its a 100 year old building and it wasnt a r o a c h. b u g s happen. you didnt deserve to get any food comped. maybe if even ONE of you had a conception of a)english and b)how to respectfully voice a concern to the manager, you would have had a better outcome. and dont blur the issue- you were going to deny the server their tip because the manager wouldnt take ALL the appetizers off your bill- over one silly b u g. real classy. remind me to walk into your cushy office and dock your pay the next time you f a r t. while the situation was not handled perfectly, you acted like children.
