What People Are Saying About Mamoun's

Those familiar with the Soup Nazi-esque ordering system and atmosphere at the original Mamoun's will be delighted (or disappointed) by its bigger, shinier East Village sibling. Several indoor tables and a few outdoor ones make the newest outpost of this chainlet feel like a real restaurant, rather than a takeout joint. The overstuffed falafel sandwiches, combination plates with hummus and baba ghannouj, and the lamb and chicken shwarma choices, including shish (cubes on sekewers) or kefta (patties) kebabs, remain the same. And so have the low, low prices and the hoards of hungry folks looking…
Editor's Tips
- The Extras:
- Mamoun's is open from 11am to 5am 365 days a year.
- Know Before You Go:
- It's cash only, although St. Marks has several standalone ATMs in front of stores.
- What to Drink:
- There are plenty of spots nearby to wet your whistle with something stronger, so stick to Middle Eastern favorites here, such as Turkish coffee (spiced with cardamom seeds) or tamarind juice.

Mouth-Watering Shwarma Sandwich
by Athena Chang , Citysearch Contributor
I love Mamoun's. It keeps me full when I am poor. It makes me happy at 3AM after bar hopping or clubbing.
Their shwarma sandwich is only $5 but the flavor is priceless. If you like spicy food, try out their hot sauce; it is deadly. Also, try their Adana kebab sandwich; it is different from Shwarma but tastes even better.
Don't forget their $3 Falafel sandwich too. This is the best recession meal!
- Pros: Delicious Sandwiches under $5
Amazing hot sauce, homemade feel

It's not open as late as the original Mamoun's (closes at midnight or 1, I think), but the St. Marks branch is still amazingly tasty, still really cheap, still has the hallmark Mamoun's hot sauce -- and overall, is still a great place for a cheap, fast meal.
It's even much less likely to be mobbed than the original!
- Pros: Best falafel in town, really nice hot sauce
- Cons: Small, dark

Absoultely delicious! Hands down the most authentic arabic food I have had in the states! It does not have that mass produced feel and it is just simply delicious!
- Pros: DELICIOUS FOOD
- Cons: Small sitting area

One block from my place on St. Mark's, Mamouns was always a strong choice either coming home late from the office or rolling home later on off-school-nights.
- Pros: Awesome, cheap, late!
- Cons: Burp-backs!
Cant beat it
