“Only downside is the price of the bar - the cocktails are quite expensive $13-$16.”
“The rooms and bathrooms are large for NYC, very soft beds and large bathroom with large tub and separate shower complete with fresh orchids and scented candles.”
“The rooms are spotless, beds are comfortable, options are endless.”
“There's also a great but pricey french restaurant if you're hungry.”
“The service was good, the room was very nice and the "breakfast in bed" room service hit the spot.”

“Too bad I was only there one night and couldn't really enjoy our lovely room for long.”
Nice place. Among NYC hotels this ranks up there at the top. It is still new and untarnished. Gives the guests a smallish comfy feeling. I like that. Rooms are not that special but they have nice bathrooms. Have Internet but not Wireless. Lousy minibar with those (touch 'em and you pay - but don't worry if you fiddle around just talk to reception and they will fix that). The pople seem to know what hey are doing and are helpful and courteus.
Highly recommended. My wife and I fully enjoyed staying at Sofitel New York. Only five miniutes to Time Square and Two Minutes to Time Squre. We entertained friends at the French restaurant at the hotel. We all agreed it is one of the best French restaurant in the city.
Most recommended hotel in the city.
Fantastic location, 5 minutes to time square and 5 mintues to 5th Ave.
It is very elegant and has a European touch. As a businessman, I stayed from Wednesday through Saturday in Nov, 2004. I felt so comformable with its location that either for my business contacts or my family gatherings.
I strongly recommend that you dine at its French restaurant, one of the best in the city of New York
A taste of France in the heart of New York City..
The Scene
There's nothing quite like a holiday in Paris, especially when you're in New York. Appropriately enough, Bastille Day in 2000 marked the grand opening of the first Manhattan home of this upscale French hotel chain. It stands out among its history-laden neighbors as an ultramodern tower grounded by two 20-story limestone wings. The lobby sports a colorful ceiling mural depicting scenes similar to those in the hotel's Gaby restaurant, serving French cuisine with Asian influences.
The Details
Smoking is on a floor-by-floor basis, a rule covering all 346 rooms and 52 suites. Once inside, think 1930s Paris. Black-and-white photos of the Big Apple's and the City of Lights' monuments line the walls and in guest rooms. Accommodations are tastefully furnished, with lots of natural and artificial light. There are plenty of modern amenities, including high-speed Internet access and necessities such as hair dryers and phones in the bathroom. Sofitel also has an on-site fitness center.
Perfect Location, Fabulous Hotel. From the hustle and bustle of 44th street (the hotel is perfectly placed between Times Square and Fifth Ave) you enter the peaceful haven of french style and comfort of the Sofitels lobby. The staff were all courteous; from the welcoming receptionists to the discreet maid service and friendly doormen. The location is perfect and just 5 mins from the subway to get to the rest of the city. Rooms are large for NYC. The atmosphere created by the furnishings is warm and cosy. The bathrooms offer a greater degree of style with vases of orchids and candles adding the extra touches which make all the difference. The Red Flame diner is just a few doors away and a great place for breakfast. We stayed for one week and enjoyed every second, we will definitely stay at the Sofitel again and I can't recommend it highly enough.
Must be the French. After messing up our reservation, I was less than pleased with the staff at the Sofitel. Yes it is a clean, wonderfully appealing hotel however the staff's ability to make up for a mistake will cost them my stay in the future. When they lost our reservation they simply apologized and pushed us into a room that we didn't want but still made us pay for. We had a problem with getting our bags delivered to our room (they lost them) and they were very concerned at our request for a 4 PM checkout time (I am an exclusive sofitel member granting me that request any time I ask). They lacked a morning paper and the rooms were a bit small. On the plus side, great location, bell-hops were great and you can't beat the style.
Very Nice.
Excellent location and room. Very very clean. The check-in was very fast and friendly. Room service menu is excellent. We stayed Fri (12:00pm check-in!) to Sat (asked for late check-out and were granted - 1:00pm). This hotel has a "Boutique" feel to it - We were very impressed (we stayed at The Peninsula Hotel before and now feel that it is way overpriced compared to the Sofitel)
Booked it through Expedia: $149 + 25.87 (tax/svc) = $174.87 - Great Value!!
Stylin'!. Great retro decor! Too bad I was only there one night and couldn't really enjoy our lovely room for long. Neato furniture and decor, wish I had checked out Gaby's. This place is right beside the Algonquin, for those Dorothy Parker/1920s fans out there. Cheers!
Very nice. My companion and I were very impressed with Sofitel. The service was good, the room was very nice and the "breakfast in bed" room service hit the spot. Not to mention, it was in a very convenient location. I would recommend Sofitel to anyone. Overall we were very happy and would surely stay there again.
A can't miss. Stayed here for a weekend catching a show. From the moment you walked in, greeted with open arms. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The concierge is very informative for nightlife and restaurants, and the room was very accomodating.
