My two friends and I stumbled upon this gem last Saturday night as we bounced around the Lower East Side looking for a place to hang out... we were tired of walking around trying to find somewhere to stay for a while, and we just needed a beer really. What a great choice. Essex Ale House is extremely plain, without much in terms of decorations, music or atmosphere. There is just one bartender, a small bar, about 8 bar stools and two standing tables compliment a fantastic domestic beer list (organized by brewery's state). With around 10 beers on tap and 50+ in the bottle, we were a bit overwhelmed but I guess the best thing to do it either ask the bartender for a suggestion or just try something. I took a pint of the Liquid Gold on tap and was not disappointed. I will return here without a doubt if I am in this area and looking to relax at a low key spot.

Went in after work for a couple beers. An interesting and great beer selection on tap - not much overlap from dba which is a few blocks away. 2 for 1 on any of the US micros on tap. Nice relaxing bar - the bartender fed the jukebox with a good selection of tunes. Dales Pale Ale in cans - bonus! Prices are consistent with other beer themed place in the city.
