A virtual Mecca for gear heads, this electronics giant hawks everything from booming sound systems to notebook-sized personal computers..
In Short
Founded in 1983, this high-tech haven is recognizable by its blue, box-like building stamped with a yellow price tag-shaped logo. Explore the wide, gadget-lined aisles and find brand-name goods including personal computers, video games, TVs, digital cameras, cell phones and fax machines. Choose from a slew of popular brands such as Canon, Microsoft, Samsung and Sony. In-house installation services are available for most car audio and video systems, home entertainment systems, satellite hook-up, and home appliances.
The most horrific customer service I've ever experienced! Stay away! Go somewhere else!.
We were looking for a Pioneer 50" screen plasma. We went to Best Buy and waited there for about 20 minutes with nobody offering to help us. Well, I had to take it upon myself to find somebody. After I told them which TV I wanted, they said they were going to get it ready for us. About 45 minutes later, they came back to us saying that they didn't have it in stock. As we were trying to walk out of the store, another salesperson stopped us and said that they think they're on the verge of finding it. We wait 20 more minutes. Then they say that they don't have it. They say they'll give us a break and sell us the newer model for $500 less than the asking price. We told them that we would think about it.
Exactly one week later, we came back and told them we agreed to take the newer model for the discount of $500. Well, we are then again kept waiting for 20 minutes as the salesperson sees whether the price will be honored. He then tries to sell us their "service package" which includes a four year warranty and callibration. He then wastes more of our time explaining what callibration is and how we so need to have our televisions callibrated. He neglects to tell us that this service package is an extra $800! I asked him what the Pioneer warranty was. He says it's terrible but it is only 90 days.
I personally think a warranty should be one year. 90 days is too little. So we agree to the four year warranty that Best Buy is offering and decline the callibration, saving us $300. We are then kept waiting for another 15 minutes. We pay for the television on the Best Buy credit card (which we spent 20 minutes applying for). We then learn they can't deliver the TV as the model is too new and they don't have it in stock. We then spend another 15 minutes getting a refund.
We received no apologies for this ordeal. Oh, and we found out that Pioneer's warranty is 1 year not 90 days. So the salesperson also lied to us about the warranty to sell us the package plan.
Customer Service Issues. The service at this particular Best Buy store is consistently rude and inept. My advice - try the nearby Chelsea store or order online.
