Editorial Review for Hudson River Cafe – by Justin Hartung

The Hudson River Café may lack views of the titular river, it does have its own version of dramatic scenery. The large two-story patio gets buzz not only from its stylish Harlem clientele and live bands, but also from the occasional Amtrak train whizzing by mere feet away. The eclectic menu delves into oceanic eating--seviche, a raw bar and a lobster roll--and more earthbound fare like skirt steak with yucca fries and a half chicken with truffle mashed potatoes.

Save your money-- go somewhere else. Bad food, bad service, overpriced drinks, and a waste of time!!!

Food was awesome, great flavors. My favorite was the calamari salad in the first course. Service was knowledgeable and attentive. My friend couldn't decide between the ribs and the schrimp for his entree and our server was kind enough to have the ribs prepared as an appetizer for him. The ambiance is not quite as impressive as the food and the service. It somehow has a casual feel to it, which can appeal to some, but for the price we were paying, I would have wanted the atmosphere to match the food. Bottom line is...it was a great meal.

Pros: staff,food

A large, lively patio and a diverse New American menu attract a gaggle of pretty people in far-west Harlem.  See the full editorial review.
