What Our Expert Scouts Say

June 12, 2013

Minca has a speciality clientele -- ramen fans who come there specifically for the spicy ramen with roast pork. In a ramen-crazed neighborhood like the East Village it pays to have a niche.

Minca may not make the best ramen in NYC but they are consistently good. Be sure to try their spicy miso ramen. Not too spicy but does make you sweat a little.

Slurp. Yum!. Nothing beats the basic pork broth soup. Its got just the right amount of savory slickness that lets you know its made from real broth without it being overly greasy. It goes great with a sapporo.

Awesome Ramen in the City. Minca holds a special place in my heart among all the ramen spots in the city. It is kind of hidden and tiny but it is just so good that I want to go back again and again.

I didn't try every single ramen on the menu but my favorite has been their spicy ramen, which is thick and comes with fatty soft charshu. Their miso ramen is great too.

If you like clean and light broth, minca is probably not for you. However, if you like thick broth and bang for your buck, Minca is the way to go. Their homemade shrimp gyoza was excellent too. You know it is not coming from the frozen section!

Best Ramen Soup I have ever had!. This place is supposed to be #3 according to some 2009 "King of the Bowl Ratings" (Rameniac). Let me tell you, it was the most PERFECT soup I ever had. The broth was flavorful and the noodles plentiful. I loved the mushrooms, corn, and the other special treats in the soup. The fried tofu was cooked to perfection. I eat my soup with this spoon/fork I bought at the MoMa store. best.invention.ever.

Melt in your mouth Ramen. The Ramen here is delicious and completely authentic. I always come here when i crave comfort food. This place is always filled with Japanese patrons which is a sign that they mean business when it comes to the art of making Ramen.

Very good place for noddles. Their ramen is so delicious. We have been there many times and never disappoints. Especially perfect for a cold winter. The place is a little bit run down and is tiny for its customers but the food is worth it. Simple, basic but good food.

Great broth and pork, noodles are special, thicker kind of ramen.. This is real authentic ramen. The pork is always perfect, and the variety of choices is great. I live very close to minca and i used to eat there almost once a week. I have to say that the quality of the broth varies depending on who is cooking. And that I do not really like the kind of noodles they use, they are too thick for me. This is a very special type of ramen, and it is not like what you get at most japanese ramen shops. That being said, it's perhaps one of two or three places in new york that actually make decent ramen. So if you really like this kind of food, it definately a "MUST GO" kind of place. I reccomend the "Shoyu Ramen," but ask for the "thinner noodles" that come with the "Minca Ramen" if you don't want the thick noodles they normally use. Also, the "Daikon Salad" is amazing, and the gyoza is out-of-this-world.

Awesome ramen. I've always been the person that is against paying $10+ for ramen noodle. After my friend took me to this place, my opinion about authentic ramen noodle totally changed. The broth and noodle here are very fresh, with alot of selections. The pork they put in the ramen soup is very tasty and tender. The shrimp gyoza apetitzer is simple and very tasty.. highly recommend this place.

The real deal. Minca is out of this world. The ramen is totally authentic , reasonably priced and better than other more well-known ramen places. Going to Minca is like stepping into Tokyo. All the ramen options are delicious though to my palate, you can't beat the spicy basic ramen with a Sapporo on the side.

Best ramen I've tried! - Esp luv the soup & pork. Love the Basic ramen. The pork so tender, soup so saporous. The ramen texture is usually perfect. But it was kind of hard the last time I went. But it was perfect after sitting in the bowl for 3-5 min. Also tried their Shrimp Gyoza - WOW!!!! I don't even know hot to explain - it is truly unherad of (to me). There is actually a shrimp in each gyoza, with the shrimp tail. But this place smells like gas.. I do worry. And, it is quite out of the way for me. Still, it is totally worth the detour for top quality ramen and gyoza.
