Alphabet city's best family style restaurant

by MariDanisa

The setting of the restaurant is very laid back and comfortable.

The food is marvelous, you can tell that Chef Paolo Nozzoli makes his food with love. The food tastes so rich but is light to your stomach.

The prices are very reasonable and he delivers in the neighborhood.

  • Pros: Nice home feeling and wonderful service

kick ass itlalian

by brookewy

basically my dining room. i am here all the time. the servers, staff and chef/owner all know me by name and are always super appreciative of my business. the food is consistently good, except when paulo the chef/owner wasn't there for a bit, and the replacement was not up to par. now that paulo's back, the food is amazing again and again and again....you get the point. good for all sorts - dates parties families, whatever. they are also awesome for brunch.

  • Pros: outdoor seating, fresh pasta, fresh desserts
  • Cons: dimly lit

Simply good Italian food, best around Lower Manhattan

by gvarvaro

I went to this cosy restaurant recently and got really surprised by the atmosphere, the food and the wine list. First, the restaurant is really cosy, it may have about 10 tables inside and it gets really packed with most people dispatching three course meals plus enough wine to leave the place in a party mood; so, I think reserving a table is a good idea. The place is unpretentious and the decoration may easily evoke a rather old family owned restaurant like those back in the day although there were no Italians among the staff but probably they have an Italian heart. Second, the wine list, short and concise it is well selected for excellent quality at a reasonable price, we had a bottle of a beautiful white from Sardegna which was just $32 (I highly recommend this one). Finally the food, being myself from Sicilian parents I'm prone to criticise food quite severely and to appreciate simplicity and flavour; well, they passed and with an A. The pastas are homemade and in my case I had a papardelle with salcicia arrabiata with happens to be my favourite pasta dish and I have to acknowledge that my 'nonna' wouldn't make it differently. Did not have space in my tummy for dessert but I guess they're also great. Definitely an excellent choice for good italian food. The manager Luis is also really friendly and would do whatever to make your visit a pleasure (it got us a table within 15min even though we did not have reservation).

  • Pros: Great atmosphere, real Italian food and wine
  • Cons: Small, but I personally think this is actually great.

Been only once, but will definitely return!

by jro138

Had the Antipasto Misto for an appetizer. Good portion of 3 differnent cheeses and 3 different varieties of cold cuts. Also had the Grilled shrimp salad which was absolutely delicious!!! My date agreed that it was a delicious salad. Our table neighbors got pasta which also looked simple and delicious---they finished their food so I intend to try that out soon. Only complaint was that our service was slow. The people next to us with the pasta came and left in time we were there so maybe it was what we ordered that slowed them down?
