Beware of Gratuity Ripoff for TAKE OUT FOOD.
On December 17, 2010 a few of us in our office wanted to eat breakfast together so rather than use the coffee shop downstairs we ordered from Applebee's located at 205 W 50th Street, New York, NY 10019. We used the call to order and was told it would be ready in 20minutes for pick up. When we went to pick it up there was gratuity over $14 already on the bill. I stated to the manager that I have NEVER seen a gratuity charge on a TAKE OUT ORDER. His response was "well someone had to bag the food up for you didn’t they?". We paid the charge and vowed to tell EVERYONE about this ridiculous policy of charging a full gratuity for takeout food. A gratuity charge is something earned by the server for serving your food tableside and not something that is earned by simply placing food in a bag for pick up. I believe that this Applebee’s location is taking advantage of its customers since this location is in a high volume tourist area.

Totally ridiculous prices for an Applebee's experience!.
I have to agree with the other reviewer. We also happen to be from Miami. Although we knew to expect that prices would be higher since we were in New York, it became a bit crazy! The only reason we went to an Applebee's was because we thought we knew what to expect-good food, good drinks. The drinks were watered down, the beer was hot and the food was cold-not a good combination!
We had 1 beer ($7.50), 1 Margarita ($11.00), and 2 appetizers. We were expecting the bill to be about $50. It ended up being about $72!! They also add a 17% gratuity to your entire bill after 6 p.m.
I would not reccomend this restaurant at all!

REDICULOUS DRINK PRICES WHICH THEY DON'T BOTHER PUTTING ON THE MENU.
I've been to applebees here in Miami several times. They have 2 for 1drinks every day all day. Being that this is times square, I could understand that they don't offer the 2 for 1 special, but $15 for a perfect margarita?? I had two margaritas, my GF had two apple martinis, and we ordered the chicken and cheese penne pasta...the bill came out to $66 not including the tip!! Let me sum that up one more time for you.....4 drinks...1 pasta dish...$66. If you look at my other reviews, you'll notice I'm not cheap. Im complaining because I'm paying close to gourmet prices at a freakin applebees!
