Born in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn, Alexis Bittar went from selling his jewelry on Soho's streets to selling it in more than 500 stores across the world. In his Victorian yet industrial-styled store, case after glass case displays different themed jewelry collections, including nature-inspired gold vermei discs on bracelets; drop earrings that resemble pieces of coral; actual butterfly wings encased in clear quartz pendants and Bittar's trademark "Working Girl"-esque Lucite designs. Luckily for New York fashionistas, the store's shiny baubles appeal to both the preppy and bohemian set.
Hits: Candle holders that look like little gold-plated tree trunks studded with mixed gems will elevate any dinner table.
Misses: While the hanging jewelry cases installed between a glass partition and the pink walls are surely maximum security, the exposed wiring and brackets left visible don't jibe with the beautiful shop wares.
