“They offer a full procedure "Royal Shave" that last about 25 minutes.”
The most disgusting place i have ever been - filthy environment and pushy staff. Very nice - but extremely pushy. The wax was dirty and appears to be used time and time again - I saw eyebrow hair in the container. I am still completely disgusted at the whole thing.
FIRST BARBERSHOP BAD EXPIRIENCE NEVER SHAVE IN THIS PLACE.
Hi All,
I've recently been inspired to get into shaving with a straight razor so I picked up Rafaels Hair Salon. Anyways, for my very fist shave with a straight I thought I'd go to a barbershop and have a professional do it so it would be a good experience and would set the mark for how smooth my shaves should be.
I went to the Rafaels Hair Salon. They have a guy there who supposedly just does shaves and has been doing them for years. Well, it sucked, all the preparation was nice, but the actual shave, he tore me up. He SHAVED ME WITH ELECTRIC SHAVER first and my face already was irritating he gave me some serious burn. Hot towels were applied, as well as pre-shave oil, and though I couldn't see, I thought he was skimpy on the shaving cream. He didn't stretch my skin at all. He used a feather. And in the end it wasn't nearly as smooth as I can get with a Mach 3. All this leads me to believe that he didn't do a good job.
NEVER SHAVE AT RAFAELS HAIR SALON...
The best place I've been!!!.
I moved to NY 4 years ago and the first few months I tried several places. I have very specific hair and you can't just cut it. It's bone straight and not like most guys hair. Everywhere I went they messed it up and made me look like a baby chick. I found this place walking home and figured what the hell. They set me down with Robert, who asked me what I liked. He looked at me head and 15 minutes later it was the best hair cut ever. I have been going to him ever since. I change my hairstyles now and then and he always nails what I want.
The other people do try and up sell you a lot. Even after four years. Maybe it's cause I work in sales, but if you tell them not today they stop asking. It's not nearly as big a deal as people are making on here.
I also like how nice they are. They remember me when I come in, they act like friends. I also love how they constantly compliment me. It is a nice change from other Shi Shi NY places that hold their nose I. The air like Warren-tricomi who also charge an arm and a leg.
The prices are more than fair, and frankly if they charged more I'd pay it. Can't put a price on a good hair cut. I usually spend about $40, though the hair cut is not that much. I tip Robert and the girl that washes my hair simply because they are so nice.
Now this review is for guys, I'm not a girl and never had a lady friend come in. But all the girls I have seen getting their hair done seem very happy. But for guys.... Make an appointment with Robert!
Deceptive, Expensive & Not Great. Not a great experience at all. I have to agree, they are very pushy. Their price list is deceptive. You need to ask exactly how much you're going to pay BEFORE you do anything or they'll rip you off. I had my eyebrows done and they charged me $45! I thought because it was closer to my job, I'll do it. The price list said eyelashes $15....that's it. Afterward they tell me it's just to color the lashes. This should be clearly stated. They started falling off after 3 days when I was told they would last for 3 weeks. I had my eyelashes done on 125th street for $15 and they lasted so long I had to go to them to take them off!! Don't waste your money!
Pushy Owners. Diana is Lana and Rafael's daughter. Pushy!.
Lana, Diana and Rafael are husband, wife and daughter. They are the pushiest people I have ever had the displeasure of dealing with.
They push you to buy things you don't want. They rave about everything there bc it's their place. Don't fall for the BS!!!!!!!!!!!!
Best haircut and Coloring for Business Men.
Raphael's is a very conveinent location for a business man to get a great haircut andf coloring.
I like and need to look my best, in order to make an impression on sales' calls.
The services are reasonable priced and you don't need an appointment.
They also have CNBC on, to keep informed.
The best haircut. I am always coming to this salon when I am in New York from Miami. Highly recommended place for a great cut. A very clean salon. Great at accomodating and making your experience satisfying. On top of it all, you will always leave feeling as if you received the best cut possible. One of the best hair cuts I've ever received...time and time again. I have going for the last 5 years and never been disappointed, if you need a haircut (guy or girl) you cannot go wrong!!!! I highly recommend you check it out for yourself!! Have a good day !!
Warning!.
This russian salon have people with large signs walking the streets around Times Sqaure, giving you $5 discounts. Me and my girlfriend took a paper each, but the guy took one of them back (we did only get $5 discount instead of $5 each). We told the excessively nice russian woman (Lana is her name) behind the counter that we only wanted a haircut each. It should have been about $40 in total. The owner (Rafael) talked me into getting a shave as well and that was another $15. But instead of $55 Lana made us pay $114 plus $20 for tips. I didn't argue, but of course I should have.
The haircutting and shaving was also pretty bad. My girlfriends cutting was better though.
I warn you about this place! The people here are good sellers but they may steal your money if you're not careful. If you want to go there anyway, be sure to pay in advance!
Wonderful, Friendly, Very Positive Experience-Great Service. I have nothing but good things to say about this salon. Well trained expert staff work in a well run place. Genuine and warm people work and own the place, They treat you like family. What I also like about it is that you can get consistently excellent service at reasonable prices. My girlfriend adores the hairstylist Diana as well as the girls who do her manicure/pedicure and waxing. I'm very happy at Rafael's and highly recommend it.
Jack of All Trades - Master of None. This place tries to do too much and as a result it does nothing particularly well. You can get a decent manicure and pedicure (provided you bring your own colors and not limit yourself to their selection) and the eyebrow threading is usually good. But do not trust them with anything more than a wash and blow-dry for your hair. I had to spend $170 the day after I got my hair cut there trying to fix the butcher job they had done. Also, the sales pressure is terrible and makes for a very unnerving experience.
