Editorial Review for Treehouse – by Joanna Prisco

In Short
Between the vintage table and chairs, '60s-style floor tiles and beckoning bowl of chocolate candies, this shop evokes an old friend's apartment. Racks and jewelry cases overflow with handmade fashions by indie-designer owners Rebecca Min Lee and Siri Wilson, as well as their most beloved vintage discoveries and small lines by first-timers--many of them local. The growing craft library, filled with books on fashion and more, provides a resource for others in the community.

I went shopping in Williamsburg for my best friend's birthday (who happens to be a very crafty girl!), and went into several stores before stumbling upon Treehouse. Like the other reviewer here said, the first thing that struck me was how unpretentious and laid-back the vibe of the store was, and how friendly the salespeople were (and they didn't trail me around obnoxiously). I ended up buying a gorgeous necklace for my friend (which wasn't CHEAP, but it was well-priced, especially compared to other stores selling similar items in Williamsburg), and I am already obsessing over the other merchandise in the store... I am going to have to make a trip again shortly.

I was very excited to see this shop open up in my neighborhood. It has a very welcoming vibe, as opposed to some pretentious boutiques that are also starting to crop up in the 'hood. The clothes and jewelry there are one-of-a-kind and, for the most part, affordable. The owners are really friendly and don't do the hard-sell thing. In addition, they have cocktail parties with free drinks every Thursday night. Can't beat that.
