“This place was nice, romantic and had awesome drinks.”
“Bar can perhaps best be described as what an aspiring hipster with a trust fund living somewhere in the heartland dreams of when he fantasizes about a "cool New York bar”
“Bar would be a great place for parties definitely but am a bit wary of the stripper poles though!”
“We also encountered rude doormen who wouldn't allow members of my friend's party inside the not-even-close to crowded bar, along with a self-proclaimed "manager" with the worst Napoleon Complex in all of Manahattan.”
“We had one overpriced drink and bailed.”
“The front room is large with couches and a really long bar (with the best bartenders!)”
Nice Fun Bowery Spot. After a terrible experience accross the street at Katra one of the NICE Security Guys brought us to R-Bar.... Nice fun crowd line is a little long but definately more my crowd. Great music by the dj and goodlooking boys made our evening. Prices are good but it does get crazy packed
Not a place for girls. Me and my cousins were there for a bday party having fun until one of the girls in our party was attacked by another girl and her boyfriend. After breaking up the altercation, I was escorted out for no reason. I do not recommend R Bar. I did not feel safe at all!
BEWARE!! TERRIBLE PLACE!!.
This place looked like a blast. We had really high hopes, and heard it coould be a good place...but we were so dissappointed....
Condoms on the floor....
Ugly guys dancing on poles...
No good looking people...
Expensive drinks with little alcohol in them.
AND THE BOUNCER TOUCHED ME INAPPROPRIATELY WHEN I WALKED PAST HIM... the whole nights was awful!!
WORST PLACE in NYC!! NOT SAFE!!!.
THIS PLACE IS HORRIBLE!!!!! Never will go here again.
They have the WORST bouncers. They did NOTHING when my friend (who is a girl) was getting PUNCHED in the face by a random girl.
The bouncers then threw out the guys who were trying to seperate the girls, and REFUSED to throw out the girl who was punching my friend in the face. It was the scariest experience ever!!!
This bar should just close up shop. I have heard awful things before, and now I know it's all true. AVOID THIS PLACE!!!!!! NOT SAFE AT ALL!!!!!!!!!!
Great Place..
The only bad thing I can say about this place is that it can get super crowded sometimes.
Aside from that, it's a great place to go. Staff is top notch and very friendly, everyone from owner to bus boys. Drinks are strong and prices are reasonable for NYC. Music is pretty standard top 40 stuff, but at a reasonable volume so you don't feel deaf the next day.
Bottom Line: Try their Long Island, you won't regret it.
Fun bar, but BEWARE.
Have been to R Bar several times in the past year or so. Usually have a fun time. It can get VERY crowded. Service is so-so. Some bartenders are really great, others have been pretty rude.
However the last time I went (Sat, Oct 9th) my phone was stolen and my friend's purse was stolen. When we reported it to the police, the detective we spoke to told us this was the 4th report he's gotten of this sort of thing happening at R Bar in the last couple weeks.
Is it the bar's fault - eh, who knows, probably not - it was VERY crowded the night we were there. But if you decide to go, just keep a really close eye on your stuff. Apparently somebody's been targeting R Bar for purse/phone snatching.
Glamourous and fun !.
My friends and I were looking for a cool spot to grab a drink on Friday night to celebrate my engagement. We wandered into the swank lush R-Bar on Bowery and were extremely happy to see that there was a BURLESQUE show happening there that night.
The show was amazing it was a troope that has a regular gig there (Rhinestone Follies). The girls in the troupe were extremely friendly and cool-they gave us a deal on the admission after we told the door girl we were celebrating my engagement. The show was incredibly glamourous and old hollywood-these girls are gorgeous and classy !
The R-bar has comphy seating and delish drinks-nice cool vibe
.
I highly recommend R-bar to host a bachelorette or engagement party-try to go on a night that the Follies have a gig there !!! It's a great venue if you love glamour and burlesque.
Worst Bar in NYC. I'm writing to let everyone know of the horrible service my friends and I received recently at R Bar, 218 Bowery St. We arrived at the bar well before the crowds. When asking for requests of the DJ, "Elan," we were rudely told, 'I'll play whatever I want, when I want' and the snippy attitude of the manager 'Michelle' was just as bad. The bar was hardly an exclusive club and you would think the money of 15 girls on a slow night would be welcome. Of all the bars I’ve been to in NYC, this is the worst.
Sultry Sexy Bar with Poles!.
I read some bad reviews here but I don't know why. Maybe I would need to come back again to see what they were complaining about.
At first sight, this bar looks a bit shabby and ghetto from outside. Probably because it is on Bowery St in the middle of nowhere. However, once you enter, it is actually very spacious with velvet couches everywhere. What is even better is that they have poles around! I have to say though, the poles are way too slippery to actually do anything with them.
The major complaint I have is AT&T has absolutely no reception at this bar. What a huge annoyance!
Awful & Terrible, Terrible & Awful. Planned a bachelorette party for my friend and made reservations at R Bar. Told if we got there by 11 we wouldn't need to wait in line. Also told we had a table reserved in the front bar and would have back bar access. Even called the day of to confirm reservation. When we got there, well before 11, were told we had to wait in line to get in even though we were on the list. When we got in, we were told we didn't have a table, only back room access. Specifically chose this bar because it's ROCK AND ROLL only to get there and find they play the same pop music club stuff everyone else plays. Crowd was definitely barely 21 frat kids. Not what they advertise, not what we were promised. In fact, we were blatantly lied to about what we were getting. We had one overpriced drink and bailed.
