What People Are Saying About Townhouse Spa

Featured Review

In Short – If countless spas could be described as "homey," this one's the literal definition. Carpeted staircases with wrought-iron railings lead women and men to their respective floors. Mahogany hallways branch off into changing areas (think steam rooms with personal waterfalls and top-notch products) and hushed rooms where the expert staff takes over. Noteworthy services include the Spa Oceana--a futuristic Jacuzzi pod glowing with Chakra lights--and Cryo Facial, which utilizes frozen live plant cells.

Editor's Tips

When to Go:
Social lingering is a specialty here--so for special occasions, book the phoenix-themed couple's treatment room or one of the party lounges.
Know Before You Go:
Men will feel comfortable on their private floor, where they'll find a plasma TV and three barbershop chairs for shaves, shoe shines, scalp massages and more.
The Extras:
This spa was started by the same woman behind Union Square's Acqua Beauty Bar.
Look Good:
Take your treatment home by picking up top-of-the-line products (Sonya Dakar, Arcona, Actifirm) in the retail shop.

  1. since i had a decent facial and massage i left a 30% tip for both the massage therapists and the lady that did my facial individually since the bad service wasn't their fault.
  2. highly recommend this spa as opposed others because of the luxurious and tranquil setting as well as personalized service
  3. It did nothing for my running injuries, but I can't complain- Sam was very attentive to my back, which also hurt a bit, and did wonders for it.

  5. although place is expensive lifebooker offered great discounts so i decided to give it a try.
  6. It was not worth the $130 for a massage of such poor technique.

Not worth the money

by Micjan

I decided to go to townhouse spa with my husband as we were celebrating our anniversary. We were really excited about preparing for a relaxing experience.

We scheduled the following services: hydrobath, couples massage manicure and pedicure.

The hydrobath was okay except I had to try and hold myself in place which didn't allow me to relax. The only essential oils that were in the tub was Murphy's Oil from the last cleaning!

The couples massage is where the real joke begins. We had two therapist Rachel and Sherry who used massaging techniques straight out of a torture chamber manual. It was horrible. My husband was in pain and said he couldn't wait for it to be over. When we were checking out we advised the lady of this. Her response was: "when you come back we will let them know. I advised her that my husband asked his therapist to lighten up but she continued in the same manner. It appears this facility is okay with customers not being satisfied with their services. Needless to say...we will not be going back.

We decided to give this 2 stars instead of 1 because the people who did the manicure and pedicure were okay.

Worst experience/ They trick u!! Thieves

by nevster

Was just at this spa yesterday w/ 3 girlfriends. We were told by there front desk that we had to book in advance in order to be together. So we booked a month prior. We get there & we are each separated & I mean in individual rooms!! We get the worst mani & pedi ever. They try to do both at the same time that the pedi is being done. The massage chair was old & the buttons did not work. The water was too cold & there were no jets & my legs are not even moisturized. I next had a facial, which was the only decent thing! However it was ruined by the front desk lady making the pedi lady come & paint my nails in the dark as my facial is going on! Of course as I go out I realixe that 2 nails are ruined & they are all various shades of the color that I chose. So I told them & all they did was put a 3rd coat on & of course its too thick & now all of my nails have bubbles.

Sad to say this is not the end of my complaint. The very worst thing that happened was that the front desk lady who was soooo rude, made us pay a tip that was in excess of what we wanted to pay & it was never disclosed up front!

She further insisted that it be all in cash! We bought a voucher from Travel- zoo for 3 services for $125. We never anticipated paying $50 more towards a tip!!! These people are thieves!! If this had been disclosed, I would not have purchased the vouchers! Normally it costs me $30 for the best mani& pedi, & its right by my home & I would not have paid more than $80 for the facial. I certainly would never pay $175 for the 3 services!! A lawsuit should be brought against this company, they are utilizing the bait & switch technique.

Also the women who answer the phone should be fired, they were the rudest I ever spoke to in any customer service position. (I called at least 6 time in the past 6 months, w/ the same experience every time)

Townhouse spa... nice exterior. services could be better.

by sonyasasha

i am sure it used to be a nice place, and is probably is a nice place unless you foolishly buy a promotional certificate - but then i would never pay $135 for a massage.

the massage was done by a nice Asian girl. i am 5'7 and 125 lbs.considered lean. i guess i was still too much work for her as she mostly massaged me... with elbows and forearms! and no, it was not shiatsu.

hydro soak was supposed to have a "blend of minerals added for your benefit" in the water. those minerals must be invisible and without any smell as it looked and felt like regular water. Was the Emperor naked? the scalp massage was good though, so i give the whole thing 2 stars.

What an Experience!

by MarieInMnhtn

I've been going to spas since I've been an adult. I visited Townhouse Spa on a friend's recommendation and I'm so glad I did!

I was treated so courteously to begin with (I don't know what this last reviewer is talking about). The entire staff is extremely accommodating starting with the woman who booked my appointment. I got relaxed as soon as I stepped through the door.

The massage I went for was unbelievable! The masseuse must have got into my bones because, when he finished, I needed a while before I could, or wanted to, get up.

Every guest there that I came across looked as if they were having the time of their lives. I can't wait to go back! I even scooped up a couple of gift cards to give to family as Christmas presents.

Bad Attitude

by stephnyc

A massage is supposed to be relaxing. While booking an appointment I was treated so rudely on the telephone. There is no excuse for a spa receptionist not to start the experience by being pleasant. Honestly, if I hadn't already paid, I would have cancelled just due to the attitude received on the phone. One pays too much for these services for such to receive such a snotty attitude. I've worked in sales for a lifetime - and the client always deserves minimal respect, even if you are busy. Good luck Townhouse, because with your current employees you probably aren't getting many return customers.
