Not worth the money – I decided to go to townhouse spa with my husband as we were celebrating our anniversary. We were really excited about preparing for a relaxing experience.
We scheduled the following services: hydrobath, couples massage manicure and pedicure.
The hydrobath was okay except I had to try and hold myself in place which didn't allow me to relax. The only essential oils that were in the tub was Murphy's Oil from the last cleaning!
The couples massage is where the real joke begins. We had two therapist Rachel and Sherry who used massaging techniques straight out of a torture chamber manual. It was horrible. My husband was in pain and said he couldn't wait for it to be over. When we were checking out we advised the lady of this. Her response was: "when you come back we will let them know. I advised her that my husband asked his therapist to lighten up but she continued in the same manner. It appears this facility is okay with customers not being satisfied with their services. Needless to say...we will not be going back.
We decided to give this 2 stars instead of 1 because the people who did the manicure and pedicure were okay.
Worst experience/ They trick u!! Thieves – Was just at this spa yesterday w/ 3 girlfriends. We were told by there front desk that we had to book in advance in order to be together. So we booked a month prior. We get there & we are each separated & I mean in individual rooms!! We get the worst mani & pedi ever. They try to do both at the same time that the pedi is being done. The massage chair was old & the buttons did not work. The water was too cold & there were no jets & my legs are not even moisturized. I next had a facial, which was the only decent thing! However it was ruined by the front desk lady making the pedi lady come & paint my nails in the dark as my facial is going on! Of course as I go out I realixe that 2 nails are ruined & they are all various shades of the color that I chose. So I told them & all they did was put a 3rd coat on & of course its too thick & now all of my nails have bubbles.
Sad to say this is not the end of my complaint. The very worst thing that happened was that the front desk lady who was soooo rude, made us pay a tip that was in excess of what we wanted to pay & it was never disclosed up front!
She further insisted that it be all in cash! We bought a voucher from Travel- zoo for 3 services for $125. We never anticipated paying $50 more towards a tip!!! These people are thieves!! If this had been disclosed, I would not have purchased the vouchers! Normally it costs me $30 for the best mani& pedi, & its right by my home & I would not have paid more than $80 for the facial. I certainly would never pay $175 for the 3 services!! A lawsuit should be brought against this company, they are utilizing the bait & switch technique.
Also the women who answer the phone should be fired, they were the rudest I ever spoke to in any customer service position. (I called at least 6 time in the past 6 months, w/ the same experience every time)
Townhouse spa... nice exterior. services could be better. – i am sure it used to be a nice place, and is probably is a nice place unless you foolishly buy a promotional certificate - but then i would never pay $135 for a massage.
the massage was done by a nice Asian girl. i am 5'7 and 125 lbs.considered lean. i guess i was still too much work for her as she mostly massaged me... with elbows and forearms! and no, it was not shiatsu.
hydro soak was supposed to have a "blend of minerals added for your benefit" in the water. those minerals must be invisible and without any smell as it looked and felt like regular water. Was the Emperor naked? the scalp massage was good though, so i give the whole thing 2 stars.
What an Experience! – I've been going to spas since I've been an adult. I visited Townhouse Spa on a friend's recommendation and I'm so glad I did!
I was treated so courteously to begin with (I don't know what this last reviewer is talking about). The entire staff is extremely accommodating starting with the woman who booked my appointment. I got relaxed as soon as I stepped through the door.
The massage I went for was unbelievable! The masseuse must have got into my bones because, when he finished, I needed a while before I could, or wanted to, get up.
Every guest there that I came across looked as if they were having the time of their lives. I can't wait to go back! I even scooped up a couple of gift cards to give to family as Christmas presents.
Bad Attitude – A massage is supposed to be relaxing. While booking an appointment I was treated so rudely on the telephone. There is no excuse for a spa receptionist not to start the experience by being pleasant. Honestly, if I hadn't already paid, I would have cancelled just due to the attitude received on the phone. One pays too much for these services for such to receive such a snotty attitude. I've worked in sales for a lifetime - and the client always deserves minimal respect, even if you are busy. Good luck Townhouse, because with your current employees you probably aren't getting many return customers.
Good massage – I am a runner, had some knee and ankle issues, and had heard great things about the Grounded Massage here. First, the massage therapist- Sam- was excellent, as promised. Unfortunately, after booking the Grounded Massage, I got a call three hours before my appointment informing me that they had double booked my time, and that I was being bumped up an hour, and would be getting a shorter massage. I wasn't in a position to reschedule or argue, so I went with it. I ended up not being able to get the Grounded Massage, as I'd hoped, but got an excellent table massage. It did nothing for my running injuries, but I can't complain- Sam was very attentive to my back, which also hurt a bit, and did wonders for it.
Only drawback was they tried to charge me for my original 75 minute massage, before I corrected them, but otherwise the staff was lovely.
WORST SPA EXPERIENCE EVER – I had been going to this spa for a number of years. I had always enjoyed top-notch service and really loved going there. Then I had a really awful experience that I have never had before or since. Long story short, one day I went for my usual treatments but, during the second treatment, it became obvious that the spa was running behind schedule since another client was demanding to work with my technician (who was working with me). The receptionist, whom I had never met before, spent my entire treatment time popping her head in to the room to see how far along I was in my treatment or she would bustle in and out, straightening and restraightening the same magazines over and over as she hovered over me and the technician who was providing my service. Then this same receptionist pulled my technician off of my treatment and handed me over to ANOTHER technician to "finish me up!" So my original technician started working with this other client - a very self-important gentleman who simply couldn't wait for his treatment. And note that The Town House Spa was EMPTY save for me and now this other client. And there were plenty of other idle technicians that this man could have worked with but he insisted on working with my technician who was mid-treatment! So, after years of patronage, I took my $$ elsewhere. P.S. I wrote a letter to the owner of this spa to tell her about my experience but she didn't have the courtesy to respond.
Best way to your spouse's heart-Couples Massage!! – I wanted to surprise my husband with something special for his birthday, so I got him a couple's massage. We redeemed it yesterday, and the service was fantastic! We were greeted by the nicest receptionists, and then offered snacks (they had these delicious yogurt covered preztels, mixed nuts with dried fruit, and tons more!) and beverages (holistic herbal teas) before our services. During the massage, the ambiance of the room was perfect....Townhouse pulled no stops! They had soothing music and candles everywhere. My husband received a deep tissue massage, while I chose the hot stone massage....both were fantastic!! Afterwards, we both took separate steams in the mens and womens changing areas...apparently I took a little longer than him to get ready, so he waited in the Men's lounge for me and watched ESPN! How great is that? They even had a relaxation area catered to men! I have to say, if you're ever looking to spend a romantic day with your significant other..this is exactly where you should do it!
Best spa facilities - you're never going to want to leave! – I read about Townhouse Spa in NYmag and decided to give a massage a try.. I've been an avid massage recipient for years, but recently moved to the area and wanted to see what all the hype was about.. I got there 20 minutes early and since I had time to kill, was offered a hydrasoak to get me started before the massage.. I have to say this was an amazing decision because it really 'warmed' my body up to the massage and I was able to really feel the full effects of the massage...by the way, the masseuse was amazing! he was super attentive to all my problem areas and really listened to what I was looking to get out of it. Also, the facilities here are amazing..I was so tempted to sit in the steam afterwards, but had to run to dinner..next time I'm definitely going to reserve the whole day just for Townhouse!
Hands Down, Best SPA – I was referred to Townhouse through a friend of mine who highly recommended the Townhouse Glow Facial-which was the best recommendation I have ever gotten. I'm originally from California, and since the weather in NY has been unbearably cold, my skin has taken a huge toll-so I opted for the Glow Facial too...
As I was going through the facial, the esthetician addressed all my skin concerns, answered all my questions, all while provided an extremely soothing/tranquil environment....and as an added bonus they included a hydrating hand treatment! After the facial was over, I looked in the mirror, and noticed how my skin looked better than it had in months! No joke, this facial really does make your skin GLOW!!
