Editorial Review for Joe W. Brown Memorial Park--TEMPORARILY CLOSED – by Jill Gottesman
The Scene
One of a network of parks maintained and directed by the New Orleans Parks and Recreation Department, Joe W Brown is open year-round, but it's especially essential to the well-being of New Orleans East residents in the summertime. The facilities include an indoor swimming pool, a full-size soccer field, six hard-surface tennis courts and eight basketball hoops, providing a number of ways to beat the heat and occupy young souls when school's out.
The Attractions
The Louisiana Nature Center is located inside the park, and is a favored destination for school field trips that teach children about various subjects from bugs to dinosaurs to electricity. Some of the city's most competitive football, basketball and baseball leagues are formed here, mostly with kids who live in the area.
