What People Are Saying About Comix

Featured Review

Contributor

This gigantic comedy club--14,000 square feet of total space--attracts both a younger, alternative clientele and staunch stand-up fans. Both crowds appreciate its clean, modern aesthetic and regular weekday happy hour. After relaxing at one of four minimalist bars, patrons swarm inside the main showroom space, which is set up in a typical tiered table-seating style. From there, entertainers like Darrell Hammond and Janeane Garofalo give the crowd the laughs they came for.

Editor's Tips

Food Served:
Hungry? Comix offers a full menu of tasty fare like pikilia, cedar plank baked salmon, and a warm chocolate cake with fresh strawberries.
The Extras:
Downstairs, an additional performance space called Ochi's Lounge offers a cheaper alternative to Comix proper, with no cover charge and a one-item minimum purchase from an already-discounted menu. Ochi's is open Mon-Sat.
Happy Hour:
If you want cheap drinks, show up between 5:30pm and 7:30pm Monday through Friday, when beer, wine and well drinks are half-off.
Know Before You Go:
Ticket prices vary from show to show, but there is always a two-item minimum (food or drink) once inside the showroom. Seating is general admission, so arrive early if you want to snag a table up front, where the view is better but you run the risk of getting picked on by the talent.

  1. Top notch comedians, great location, good food and drinks and the service we had was very attentive.
  2. also like the West Village/Meatpacking location.
  3. The club itself is amazing: an enormous room with nice mood lighting, comfortable seats.

  6. was a big fan of the show, and I think people will be surprised how much fun he is live.
  7. It's not a typical ccomedy club room, but a theater with raised seating so you can eat and watch the show while maintaining a perfect view!
  8. No matter where you sit, the view is fantastic.
  9. Once inside the venue, almost every seat had great views and we were lucky enough to be front row center.
  10. First of all I was impressed with the location, beautiful people and restaurants are everywhere you look!
  11. Also, great Village location in the Meatpacking District so we could wander abut after the show.
  12. Comix has top performers and is a great location near the meatpacking District.

  18. It's decor is simply beautiful, upsacle.
  19. This club is in the perfect location and is a great option for those tired of bumping into Tony Sausages and waiting thirty minutes in a crowded bar while watching sad old men way past their prime trying to work their game.
  20. (except Comedy Cellar of course, but you don't go there for the beautiful decor!)
  21. I've never been a better comedy show: the wait staff was pleasant and didn't pester us, the host was very good at talking to the audience without making fun of them, and Tom brought the house down!

  1. My date had the tuna which was also delicious and dessert (apple crisp) was better than my grandma's.
  2. Ended with a pineapple cake, great dinner and show combo- a little pricey at the end of the day but I guess that is the Price of hanging out in the Meat Packing District.
  3. we hadn't realized the have a full dinner menu so we'd already eaten but we shared the cookie plate which was great (warm from the oven).
  4. We didn't realize they had a full menu so we had already eaten but the waitress convinced us to share the banana cake - so yummy.

  1. Cool beers on tap, and great food, plus laughing my butt off.
  2. know that concert and theater tickets are going for increasingly outrageous prices, and $120 might not seem like a huge bill for two people, but there are plenty of other venues in town--like the Slipper Room and UCB--where it only costs $5 to $10 to ge
  3. The bartenders were great too, and didn't make you feel like an idiot waiting to get a drink.
  4. Don't because there was no reason to as it didn't affect seating or anything else except that it stuck me at their very lame bar drinking $12 cocktails.
  5. the room was so warm and welcoming and their front bar was classy.

  11. the food and drinks were great too.
  12. Had their Hot Wings: nice and crispy, yet spicy enough to order more good beer.
  13. Sure, there was a two drink minimum, but I didn't think the bar would be that pricey, because judgind from their corny, half-assed Web site, I thought it was some crappy little club.
  14. I've also been once for happy hour and they had some good drink specials.
  15. Pretty nice staff, although since we only saw the show and did not eat or drink in the showroom we didn't deal with any waiters.

  2. We arrived early to have the prepaid menu and the food was sooo good.
  3. Drinks were too expensive, but the show was hilarious and the food was very good.
  4. We saw some really funny comedians and enjoyed some good food.
  5. am not writing this place off yet, since the show was stellar and the food was good- but the night was pretty crappy- Bad Service can ruin almost anything and tonight was no exception.
  6. couldn't believe that the health food store was converted into this amazing comedy club.
  7. The shrimp quesadilla was perfect, and the mini pizzas were perfect shares for us- Try the Truffle Cheese pizza!
  8. went to see a show on Wednesday night, and it was jam-packed with great comics and delicious food.
  9. The food's pretty good too.
  10. The food was mediocre and overpriced.
  11. Maybe this space would be better as a dance club, but for stand up comedy in Manhattan, it doesnt feel right, it feels like a big fish out of water.
  12. Second, the food was fantastic!
  13. Overpriced, tasteless food.
  14. The food was so good only 8 months ago, but now it suffers.

  21. The place is a lot more upscale looking and they have a great food menu (no chicken fingers or mozzarella sticks in sight).
  22. The food tasted as good as it looked.
  23. Say Hello to Comix- bring some friends and actually enjoy both the show and the food at the same time.
  24. The whole night was great , a few suggestions and raves: Not much to complain about, maybe a less crowded table would have been nice and a nicer bigger portion of the delicious Artichoke dish was my friends only gripes.
  25. The food was good too, not a 5 star restaurant, but for a comedy club it was GOOD!
  26. highly recommend this place for a good burger, up there with the rest of the City's finest.
  27. Had the Fried chicken, and I being from the South, must say it was great home cooking, away from home.
  28. but my friends seemed to like the food.
  29. The show was great, too bad it was just for one night, I would have loved to see it again, just to see which celebs would stop by , but I am coming back, if not for the Comedians, the food was really good- restaurant quality- had the steak, it was nice an
  30. overall a great time - friendly service, yummy food.
  31. Great food and beautiful surroundings, that was the surprise.
  32. But overall the food was good, Buffalo wings nice and spicy and the Scallops was a pleasant surprise for a Comedy Club, but the biggest winner of the night was the tempura zuchinni, crispy and light and the sauce was delicious.

  41. my boy had an excellent burger (so he said) and I had a fried chicken that was hands down one of the best I've had, so - it was pretty decent night.
  42. Had the best burger here at Comix, was not expecting it, in fact I was expecting some generic slab of meat on a bread, as reputations of Comedy Clubs go.
  43. I've been to several performances here and the staff is always courteous and the food is always tasty.
  44. It seems like we were th only people that didn't get the 'great food' memo.

  50. My date had the tuna which was also delicious and dessert (apple crisp) was better than my grandma's.
  51. Mac and Cheese, with collared greens and a biscuit made for a very cool dinner, but my friend had the scallops with wild mushrooms and it was more upscale and she loved it as well.
  52. So funny & great food.
  53. Good food.

  59. The Comic was funny, the Beer selection was pretty good and the food was great.
  60. But here I got a nice piece of burger, fixed up with melted cheese and nice thick bacon.
  61. The hosts are rude, the service is indifferent, the food is overpriced and bad.
  62. Saw a great show, had a really good meal.

Great comics are at Comix

by Darren Levy at Citysearch

Cream of the crop comics are always on the calendar at Comix. Located one block from the A, C, E at 14th St, this club is sure to show you a good time. It's a very professional atmosphere, geared towards ensuring the comedians get the full attention of the audience -- even with waiters and waitresses running around. Things can get pricey with the cost of the ticket, food and the two drink minimum, so watch what you get.

  • Pros: Great comedians
  • Cons: Can get expensive

A great time

by MembersOnly at Citysearch

I went to see Donald Glover at Comix, and the experience was tremendous!

The place was packed, so I was a little worried that the food would take awhile, but the service was great, and the food was terrific. I had a chicken BLT and a couple of Stellas, and it didn’t cost me an arm and a leg. The club itself is amazing: an enormous room with nice mood lighting, comfortable seats. I’ve been to a few dives to see stand-up and Comix is clearly a cut above the rest.

The host was ridiculously funny, and I nearly cried when Hannibal Buress was on stage. Donald seemed to never pause during his set, just feeding off the energy of this really great crowd. He had me laughing the entire time!

Be sure to get there a little early. There was a long line going out the door by the time I arrived.

This club is something you have to see to believe.

Entertainment with your food and bev

by AVR , Citysearch Contributor at Citysearch

Comix frequently has fantastic headliners in a setting that is intimate enough you can get a full experience. Who wants to watch comedy in a warehouse sized venue?

Not a bad seat in the house.

Singles : Watch for Helen Hong's Laugh Match show. Riotous.

Bonus - they serve real good. Good food. Not hideous boring chain restaurant type faire.

In their room downstairs Comix frequently holds free shows. Look for the angst ridden diary readings and the dysfunctional family story hours.

Laugh therapy, considerably cheaper than a session with a head-shrinker.

  • Pros: Decent grub
  • Cons: Don't sit upfront if you are going to eat

Awesome Club!

by BernieV at Citysearch

I took my wife to see Tom Green this past weekend, and it was a blast! We hung out in the front bar beforehand and it was incredible: just gorgeous and comfortable and we arrived early enough to catch the end of happy hour ($5 mixed drinks or beer!)

I’ve never been a better comedy show: the wait staff was pleasant and didn’t pester us, the host was very good at talking to the audience without making fun of them, and Tom brought the house down! Really funny. I was a big fan of the show, and I think people will be surprised how much fun he is live.

I’d definitely return to this club, especially after I saw who else was coming!
