Editorial Review for Kyotofu – by Erin Behan
In Short
The slick, nearly all-white space looks like a cross between a futuristic space movie and an austere sanatorium. A few small stools in front leave room for a small take-out contingent, but diners walk by the glassed-off kitchen before reaching the secluded, white-padded dining room with tight-knit table seating. The savory items for pre-dessert nibbling are outnumbered by desserts like toasted walnut Tahitian vanilla parfait and black sesame sweet tofu. A few specials are introduced monthly.

Insider Tips
What to DrinkThe selection of sakes will delight the connoisseur--especially the thick and milky Kamoizumi "summer snow" ($9 a glass); novices should take a sake flight to experience three different tastes ($14, $18).
Lunch SpotA different savory menu is served from 12pm to 5:30pm, and it includes quiche, tofu salad, and cookies.
Fun FactThe restaurant's striking interior was designed by Hiromi Tsuruta, who also designed New York restaurants Jewel Bako and Momofuku.

I brought a date here after a disasterous dinner at Momofuku, and Kyotofu single-handedly saved the night. The space is intimate and warm, the cocktails were great - strong and not overly sweet, and the desserts just plain rocked. I recommend trying the chocolate cake and the sesame tofu, which is what we shared. I didn't try the dinner items, but a lot of people were eating them and they looked pretty good. I also appreciated the fact that the staff let us linger over our drinks and desserts without rushing us out. I definitely impressed my date - MISSION ACCOMPLISHED!!
Pros: Great date spot, awesome desserts, helpful staff
Cons: A bit pricey

I've had nothing but great experiences at Kyotofu, and I've been 5 or 6 times in the last few months, since I live in the neighborhood. Their desserts are outstanding - light and not too sweet. My personal favorite is their sesame tofu, but other dining companions have really liked the chocolate cake, chocolate cupcakes, and soymilk ice cream. I've also had their cocktails - inventive and not too sweet - and their savories, which I liked. I am especially fond of their sliders. I will say that service can be spotty, depending upon who is working. Buit for the most part, I've had very positive experiences.
Pros: Out of this world desserts!
Cons: Service can be spotty
