“think the interior is really cozy.”
“Not that I minded because they have a great bar while you wait.”
“The food was all good.”
“the waitress was knowledgeable about the menu and wines, and service was attentive without being overbearing.”
“wouldn't recommend this place for quiet conversation, because it's crowded and noisy, but at the same time, if you don't mind those things, it's still a great place to go with someone to catch up.”
“But, it's a good, cute place and I'm sure I'll be back some time.”
“Great Steak Frites, Wonderful service”
“The food was good across the board, although it was overpriced.”
Great Steak Frites, Wonderful service. i stopped into Cafe Cluny on a whim the other night in hopes that I could secure a table without a reservation. Unfortunately there was a 30 min wait but it was definitely worth it. This was the 2nd time I'd been there for dinner and like the 1st time, the food was incredible. The scallop app is perfect and the lobster ravioli app special was heaven. We opted for the steak frite and the cod as entrees and they were equally as delicious. The steak was cooked just right and had just the right amount of charred flavor. the cod fish was light yet the polenta and tomatoes on which it was served gave it depth, a nice touch. the waitress was knowledgeable about the menu and wines, and service was attentive without being overbearing. The portions are smaller than compared to most restaurants, however by the end of the meal I was perfectly sated, not stuffed, but definitely not hungry for more; lets just say there was no room for dessert. I will most certainly go back to Cafe Cluny; I hope to make it a regular on my list of favorites.
Ridiculous rude chef and waitstaff.
I went to Cafe Cluny recently with two friends, and had such terrible service, that I am inspired to write my first official review on citysearch. First, my friend and I ordered a cheese plate, which came with three small pieces of bread - when we asked for more, the waiter told us the chef wanted to charge us for more bread. Which isn't done, anywhere, and I've been everywhere. Then he offered us rolls for free. Yeah, like I want to eat my humboldt fog and french goat cheese with a hot dog bun, you tool. He was not in the least bit apologetic, and seemed amused by how shocked and annoyed we were by this policy. Then, he brought me red wine when I had been drinking and had ordered white, didn't apologize for that either, and charged me for it.
Are you kidding me? In New York, I can't walk 5 inches without finding a fantastic restaurant with cheese galore and enough bread to actually eat it. I will never ever again grace that shlockhole with my fabulousness. Get stuffed, pretentious pseudo fashionable, predictably lit and decorated little crapshack.
romantic date restaurant, excellent food. Went there last Saturday night with a date without a reservation at about 10pm. Hostess was very friendly and seated us within a half hour. Ambiance and lighting was lovely, relaxed. Food was top-notch. I hate brussel sprouts but the baby ones with the duck were excellent. My date had the ribs and said they were like 'buttah'. Menu was on the pricey side and bar was sceney but not overly pretentious. Will be back.
I Liked Cafe Rosso, and now I LOVE Cafe Cluny..
I liked Cafe Rosso, and now I LOVE Cafe Cluny.
Top Service, Food , Crowd and Ambience.
Knowledgeable bartender and ok wine list. Modest price but not large portions.
Get a table in the main dining room near the entrance.
Long wait without reservation on weekend.
Excellent Scallops, Squid, Cod and Short Ribs.
The best of the night was the french fries (Order as appetizer).
Excellent Creme Brulee.
I don't get it. I really don't see what the fuss is about this restaurant. Yes, it's totally cute, great lighting, nice staff (except we were totally rushed out in the end). But it's very, very overpriced and I found the food to be just eh (and yes, very small portions). There are just so many other, better restaurants for this price point. DON'T BOTHER!!!!!
West Village charmer hits all the right French-American notes..
Warm and inviting, the restaurant's two country-chic rooms hold elbow-grazing tables, but thanks to buzzing crowd, neighboring conversations rarely intrude. Street-style caricatures dot the walls along with bird art, while a suspended wooden bug in the back room is sure-fire conversation fodder. Knowledgeable but relaxed service strikes the appropriate tone.
The small and well-balanced menu of bistro classics has few missteps. Both the starter of perfectly seared scallops atop a velvety cauliflower puree and the beet salad dotted with pitch-perfect goat cheese tease the appetite and are sized to leave room for courses to come. A particularly tender and rich entree of short ribs and foie gras blows the tasty, but more pedestrian, hanger steak away; while fish-lovers will be impressed by the flavorful swordfish sided with the unusual elf mushroom. Desserts are less enchanting, with the too-cutesy play on a PB&J--grape tart and peanut butter ice cream--better in theory.
Perfect West Village Spot. I'm so happy when a restaurant hits on all cylinders. The room is nice without being pretentious. The staff is friendly and the place just has a great buzz. The most impotant part is the food and this hits it. The food was all good. Great salads, great fish, great chicken. Just nice, simple, clean, good quallity. The portions are a bit small with the prices just a tad overpriced but I'll let it slide because taste was there as was service and atmosphere. a perefct West Village neighborhood spot.
Feelis like a great hotel lobby cafe or bistro.
I've eaten here five times for breakfast, and once each for lunch and dinner.
The feel is exactly what I like to find in a great hotel's lobby.. warm... inviting... casually friendly, with delicious food.
The breakfast menu is sparse but delicious, and fairly priced.
The lunch menu too is sparse but delicious and fairly priced.
The dinner menu is loaded with delicious entrees, but they are extremely pricey. Ditto with the wine list.
Over all, it's a tremendous addition to our West Village Neighborhood.
The staff members are extremely courteous and polite... and one feels they are well trained, too.
Give it a try. It's clean... fresh... inviting and can be counted upon to offer a hip and bright experience.
Great atmosphere, good food, good service. Ate here with a friend last night. The place is very West Village--quaint, good neighborhood/homey atmosphere, well-lit, busy (but not annoyingly so). The food was good across the board, although it was overpriced. I had the special sweet carrot soup with chick peas, but the small bowl was not worth $8. It was good, though. The duck confit was tasty as well. The dessert menu left a bit to be desired. Overall, I would have enjoyed this place more if our dinner hadn't cost $132 before tip. But, it's a good, cute place and I'm sure I'll be back some time.
wow....all i can say is wow..
GREAT food, i mean GREAT...i have now found my favorite steak in NYC ... and favorite appetizer - grilled octopus over risotto...add a great vibe, upbeat service (thank you Adam). we'll be going back again and again and again.
i haven't been this excited about a new neighborhood restaurant since we discovered giorgione a few years ago.
this is a gem.
