In Short
At this relaxed outpost of the uptown Frederick's, waiters ditch ties and jackets for a casual look: pink button-downs. Diners sink into sea-foam green booths to share plates of French-inspired tapas. The menu is divided into simple categories--tapas, appetizers, pastas, fish and meat--and features the chef's signature specialties from the original location. The trio of crudo, a mix of raw salmon, tuna and yellowtail, is a particular house favorite.

If it were up to me, I'd order everything on the menu which is why I like to go with a group of friends so we can order a variety of dishes and share. Everything is so delicious! I always order the tuna tartare...always! It's the best I've had throughout my dining experience in NYC. It also helps to have a goodlooking waiter, well dressed and clean to serve you. The ambience is nice and cozy and there's always a 'welcome' and 'see you soon' waiting at the door for you. The entire staff is friendly and warm and always smiling. No restaurant service is perfect and that's why I gave them 4 stars but they're pretty damn close. Keep it up Fredericks Downtown. With a menu so delicious and a staff so friendly and warm, I'll always come back.

I've been here perhaps a few dozen times over the years and loved it every time. Only once was the food just above average but I'll overlook that as every other time it's been exceptional. While it's on the expensive side, the food is great, the service has always been excellent, and I enjoy bringing dates and guests here. This is the place to go for pre-symphony dinner but make sure you have reservations.

Yes it is a little stuffy and pretentious but the food is good, especially the meat dishes and they have a pretty good wine list. This is a good place for business lunches and diners - that way you can write off or get reimbursed the $100+ your meal is going to cost.
