The E.U.

European Gastro-Pub in the heart of the East Village. YES, beer & wine

  • Neighborhood Restaurant
  • Huge European Beer Selection
  • European Gastro-Pub

The E.U. has emerged as an East Village hit -a neighborhood spot that's relaxed yet buzzing, sophisticated yet casual.

Since it's opening, The E.U. has established itself as a dining destination, serving up European classics with modern sensibility in a handsome, well-lit room. But the beautiful room is second to the real stand out, the menu of Chef Akhtar Nawab, formerly of Craftbar, who has created a dynamic menu that pays homage to traditional European "bar food", offering favorites from Spain, England, Italy and Germany.

Weekend brunch at The E.U. has become a favorite, with a complementary glass of Prosecco, endless supply of reading materials and satisfying dishes such as The E.U. Hunter's Breakfast, E.U. Fry-Up (the restaurant's rendition of the classic British breakfast) and Fried Duck Egg making it easy to linger.

Editorial Review for The E.U. – by Kathleen Squires

The Scene
Dish racks, cookbooks, brick walls, a wood-beamed ceiling and long porcelain bar establish a homey, rustically hip ambience. The easygoing coziness extends to the staff, and the semi-open kitchen gives a peek at the professionalism behind the scenes.

The Food
The pan-European menu reads like a diplomat's dream, spanning raw bar offerings, smorgasbord-style small plates, charcuterie, sandwiches and tradition-inspired continental entrees. Plump, briny Portuguese sardines, vinegar-spiked herring and slivers of sweet beets bedding slightly bitter watercress are enchanting starters, while a house-made pretzel served with smoky bauerwurst and sharp mustard combine for a particularly transporting sandwich. Skillfully fried fish-and-chips change daily; one offering included an ocean's bounty of shrimp, hake and calamari. Desserts like a goat's milk cheesecake atop an olive fennel crisp make the E.U. an even more desirable addition to the E.V.

This place is pretty good. I wasn't dissapointed in anything I got here. I thought the specials were good so perhaps you should stick with that. I don't think the food is particularly innovative.. so if you're looking for that, this is not the place for you. The food just tastes good. Service is also pretty solid here.

Pros: service,foods

My friends invited me to meet them for a meal here and I really enjoyed myself. The menu was diverse including unique meat, seafood & chicken dishes. I actually opted for a burger which was fantastic. The ambiance was very good as was the service. Oh yeah, nice beer list.

Pros: Menu diversity, Beer list, Service
