“The staff was also very nice and accomodating, but they were seriously understaffed and they had difficulty with a large group- they didn't know how to handle it.”
Nice but not good for big groups. I held my 30th birthday here and they were able to take a reservation for 36 people downstairs (I did not book the private space upstairs). When I made the reservation, they assured me repeatedly (over 2 or 3 phone conversations) they would leave the bar open after 11pm when the restaurant closed if I still had people there. The set up of the tables was very nice. The staff was also very nice and accomodating, but they were seriously understaffed and they had difficulty with a large group- they didn't know how to handle it. It was a pain to order drinks or food and took over an hour to get water. Most people left the table to go to the bar to get water or other drinks. Once the food arrived, it was good (but not great and descriptions are not accurate- one would not imagine kidney beans in Pad Thai and with allergies to kidney beans this is a big problem- but since it took so long to order and recieve food, the person just let the dish go and did not eat much) Also during this time, they had realized they overbooked, took one of our tables away to accomodate other guests. Although there were still 30+ people in my party at 11pm, despite their assurances to me upon booking, they shut down the bar- so we moved on over to the restaurant/bar down the street, where I should have had the party originally because they have good food and the bar stays open till 2am. I booked this location based on the rave reviews that the soho location received and also based on the assurance of the staff to accomodate drinks after hours. I understand the restaurant closes at 11, but I wish they just told me the truth when I booked the party rather than lie to get the reservation. In terms of a restaurant, the staff is nice and friendly, the location is convenient, it looks beautiful and the food is good (but not great and if you have food allergies, ask what is in the dish even if you think you know it, do not rely on the menu description) but I DO NOT recommend it for large parties.
