Reluctant to Share – While I am already regretting it, I thought I would disclose a new West Village hang that feels like a private club for the moment. Bound to get popular, this 2n floor drinking establishment has a sweet digital juke box with almost any tune you can imagine as well as a backroom that congers up images of latnight poker games and hidden passageways. I knwo it can;t last, because this is NYC and all great places get discovered, but it felt like I was hanging in the bar I made for myself. The owner is also super friendly and gave me a beer on the house when I asked for a taste - then he gave my girl a glass of wine on the house as well. We hung there almost all night as different friends came and met us and have already been back twice. It's a great find but keep it quiet....
Just what was missing in the West Village. – A very cool joint. I came in for a latte around 3:30pm and checked my email on the 'free 4 customer use' computer at the front window. MXC was playing on the huge screen so I kept getting distracted by people crashing and burning on one of the funniest TV shows ever. Ruth, the barista / bartender said that they had about a dozen DVDs of MXC because it's the perfect thing to keep people entertained without getting involved in a movie plot. The music on the internet jukebox was great. Lots of stuff I remember from the 70's & 80's but if you don't see what you want on the hard drive you can download it. It costs a bit more and takes a few minutes but sometimes you just have to hear what you have to hear. Anyways, about an hour later I switched to a Blue Moon with an orange slice and noticed that the place had transformed from a cafe vibe with an espresso machine at the end of the bar to a low light, night time beer/wine joint feel with no espresso machine in sight. Ruth told me that they lower it under the counter for evenings but can still make coffee with it. Nice transformation. I have never seen that before. This is going to be my new go-to place. I highly recommend getting to the Treehouse as much as possible before the crowds find it.
Finally a cozy place to hang! – Great place to go alone or with friends. The bar has a cafe feeling, so you can hang and do your thing without a crazy bar scene to drown you out. You can actually have conversation, good food and a nice cold beer or a good glass of wine all at the same time. The ham and cheese paninis are yummy and the soup we had was delicious . The back room was so cozy and comfy. Their Wed night open mike was a lot of fun. Service is really nice and friendly. Highly reccommend.
Just hang & chat, or surf the web. Maybe play a game, or watch a movie!? – Very comfortable place to just hang and chat with friends. The bar stools are quite tall so may take some getting used to. They have Mac laptops to surf the web for free if you get bored. Great view of the street below from there for people watching too. It's called a "treehouse" cause it's a short flight above the pavement. Only beer and wine for now until they get their liquor license but quite a selection! Not much food as they have no kitchen. We've had amazing sandwiches in spite of that. Really a very charming place, there are normal tables to sit at if you prefer them over bar stools. I've been there several times, when it was pretty quiet and when it was very busy. Each time was an enjoyable experience. You do have to make an effort to order drinks when they're busy but it's that way in every bar I've been to. There are some fun games near the back room to challenge your friends to; and the projection screen always has something interesting to grab your attention. So go and give it a try; you'll find it a really fun, interesting, and unique experience. Say hi to Stian! He's the handsome fellow with the cheerful, always welcoming smile. Stian is the ultimate host, always very friendly and knowledgable. Happy Holidays!! ;-)
Great for Hanging with close friends – I went to this place after class one evening with some classmates to continue our discussion. We stumbled upon it and thought we'd give it a try. It turned out to be just the kind of place we were looking for - good beer, nice cozy place, cool looking - highly recommended if you're looking for a place to just hang with friends and grab a beer
We hear you and have taken steps to help keep it snappy. We will continue to listen and do what we can to improve. Thanks for your review. stian
