Unbelievable Experience.
My visit changed my life.
I went to Public with two of my best friends, walked in without a reservation, wanting to sit in a relaxing area where we could talk business... without any attitude the hostess offered us this cozy room, inside of Public. I was truly impressed!
The lighting is low and the music is at the right volume. The menu is not a typical appetizer/entree one but is divided into plate size, which was perfect since we wanted to share everything. We opted to have the wine guy in the bow-tie choose pairings for us... bingo. Perfect choices. I've been to many places where the wine guy just want to make a sale but not here! the guy wants to know what you usually like and you leave the rest up to him. It's so much easier than struggling with indecisive friends like mine.
The menu does not have desserts but you can get them from the Public menu.
The food comes in stages and sometimes we thought it took a little too long but in the end it's so good it is totally worth it.
Give it a try you won't be disappointed.
Excellence. Where do I begin? I am a regular at Public and was intrigued when I heard that they were building the Monday Room as I am a wine lover and also participate in their wine mailbox program. During an evening in The Monday room you will experience excellent service from the staff, a friendly and accomodating greeting by the door staff (even without a reservation they are welcoming, give realistic wait times, walk you to your table etc..) and a superb wine and food adventure. The small plates menu has been an alternative dinnner spot for my friends and I, when we are in the mood for a different menu than Public. Another plus is that recently they have created an area for outdoor seating. The Sommelier is very knowledgable and friendly, makes you feel very welcome. He seems genuinely pleased that you are there and enjoying the wine and food, which can just be rare experience in New York. Service at it's absolute best.
Awesome secret date spot.
If your date likes wine, then this is the wine bar for you. Dark, elegant, and romantic spot where you can enjoy quiet conversation and flights of wine. We explained our taste preferences in wine, her white and mine red, and the sommelier selected flights to suit our tastes. We went the distance and got the food pairings for the additional $20. Awesome. They serve small plates from the same kitchen as Public, so it's good eats as well. Well made and multi layered foods.
Can't wait go go back.
Best Wine Flights. Was there last Saturday night. It was quite, comfortable and the low lighting made it especially romantic. Such a nice change of pace from the usual Saturday night crowded bar. I ordered a three glass white wine flight, my date did the same except with red wine. We were both impressed with the selections and the charm with which the sommelier explained each one to us. First impressions are the most important and given our experience we will be going back again soon.
Tucked into a corner of model-magnet restaurant Public, this wine bar is a cross between private drawing room and gentlemen's club..
In Short
This genteel nook--kitted out with leather armchairs, dark walls, a lofty ceiling, and shelves of glittering glassware--is presided over by a wine steward well-versed in the origins and tasting notes of each vintage on the Spanish-influenced, 60-strong list. The lounge's name references a gentleman's refuge for private contemplation, but when Public's young and beautiful set squeezes in, the space ends up being much more of a scene than an escape.
Very, very cool place with a relaxing vibe.... Finally a place in nolita where we can go on a weekend and enjoy the night out without fighting for a seat!!! They don't seem to allow "standing room" in here so you can get some wine and food and really just enjoy it. I am betting this will be THE place locals take themselves to. I know I will be back.
