Great & awesome salon! I've been coming here for over 5 years now & never once have I been dissatisfied with the service. I often like to change my hairstyles and Emerald can surely do it (in the same token she'll honestly tell you if it'll look good on you or not....) But no matter what I get compliments on my 'do all the time. Truly highly recommended.
Slava is my good luck charm! – I travel to NYC for work often and have had good hair experiences in the past. During a particular trip in February I was short on time and was a walk in. It was the best hair cut I have ever received in my life!!!!! Slava was magical and I now refer to her as my NY Fairy Godmother. She has terrific energy, updated my look while still listening to what I wanted.
I met a fantastic man the evening of my first cut and we have been going on wonderful dates ever since. Not to mention the comments I recieve daily.
I have just returned from my second cut and once again from the minute I left the salon the compliments are amazing.
I cannot thank Slava enough for such a fun and professional cut. I will always return to your salon for all future hair cuts!
Amazing salon and Emerald is great!!! – I love this salon! I have been their customer for 5 yrs now and I love my hair cuts. I have long curly hair and my hair is very hard to manage, however hairdresser Emerald always knows what hair cut I need. She gives me the best highlights and great cuts. Their prices are amazing and their stuff are extremely professional.
Horrible Hair Cut experience – So I went in to get color and then decided to get a TRIM. I told them I was trying to grow my hair longer so not the cut the layers too short. I was also told that straightening was included in the price. Now I have a mullet and didn't reaceive any straightening other than a blow out. I absolutely hate the hair cut and now have to wait for it to grow back. You all need to LISTEN to your customers and not just do what you think is right! This is NOT the cut I asked for and you were wrong in thinking it would look better. I will never go there again.
AMAZING Hair Color! – I heard about SLAVA from a networking site I belong to; the writer raved about the "amazing Slava".
Well, she was right!
Having been born in NYC and having lived most of my life here, I have made the rounds of stylists for years: from uptown to down; east to west, Brooklyn and beyond.
I went to Slava for color (always a scary prospect the first time you work with a new stylist).
She gave me the best color and highlights that I’ve had in ages.
I mean AGES.
It’s amazing how the right color—even subtle-- makes all the difference; how it has to work with your complexion. It really does change your whole look—and attitude.
Add to her talent the bonus that Slava is a doll—wonderfully wise, sweet and funny.
It’s nice to see someone love their job as she does hers—and it shows.
Can’t say enough about her—try her out—you’ll see!
Best haircut I ever got... – **ASK FOR SLAVA**
I'm not from NY, so I've been searching for the perfect hairdresser since I moved here. This place is fabulous. I've already recommended it to friends - be sure to ask for Slava - she's been cutting hair for 30+ years - and her experience shows. She's a natural - she just looked at my hair and knew what to do.
I used to spend ages blowdrying my hair before work - with the cut she gave me, I literally let it drip dry and it looks great.
And the compliments are pouring in!
Rip-off artists – I booked a $28 blowout on LifeBooker. The stylist asked how I like it and I said, not stick straight - with a little body. My hair is naturally curly so it doesn't take much to add curl back in. As she dried each section she twisted the hair around the brush and pulled it out.
When I went to check out I was told that I'd received an extra service (curls) and would get a 25% surcharge. I explained that I had neither asked for anything special, nor been informed that there would be an extra cost for having curly hair. I also said that if they insisted on the extra $7, they would lose a repeat customer and receive a bad review. Apparently that extra $7 was just too tempting for the owner(!)
If you go, be sure to agree on pricing upfront. (The blowout was good, but there are plenty of other salons in town.)
Great cut, great color, great service, great prices!! – I love this salon! The prices can't be beat and the service is wonderful - not to mention that EVERYONE always asks me where I got such a great haircut and color. No one can believe that for $200 plus tip I walk out with an amazing head of hair (cut plus half-head highlights and styling) - but the best part is that the cut always grows out perfectly... the sign of a great hairdresser!
Rafael takes his time and won't let you out of the chair until every hair is checked and in place. He's also careful to guide you in the right direction with color - and he's always right! I was over highlighting my hair and he suggested some extra lowlights, which made me nervous... but in the end it was PERFECT and way better than before.
The first time I went to Park Ave (summer 2007) I had recently gotten my hair chopped off but was unhappy with the dowdy unstylish cut. Without losing too much length Rafael gave me a super stylish new do the night before I attended a wedding... could have been a disaster going to a new hairdresser right before a big event, but all I got were tons of compliments all weekend!
Also, the staff is lovely and they make wonderful recommendations with products - and even throw in some for free on occasion. The salon is open, clean and well maintained and they can always work to squeeze you in, even on a Friday night.
Very good individualized service from Slava – For a reasonably priced color and cut, this is the place to go. Slava is terrific---very friendly and totally open to talk with the client about what "works best"---what color, what type of haircut...she is very experienced.
It is not difficult to get an apppointment---that is important for me.
Ask for Slava and you will not be sorry!
Wasn't crazy about it – to put it quickly, i got a bad haircut here. these things happen, but i definitely won't go back. it wasn't the way i described how i wanted it, or the way i've had it cut in the past.
