“In a land of trendy pretense and overpriced nonsense, this place stands out as an oasis of quiet cool.”
Great music, cool people and on thursdays you can see the best burlesque shows manhattan has to offer!
Friendly, intimate and not overpriced.
First of all the staff is extremely accommodating and this place is not pretentious at all. I contacted the owner ahead of time to reserve some space for my birthday. It was so easy and they were still able to squeeze me in after showing up late.
The atmosphere is cozy with low black leather seating and intimate lighting. The music is a mix of older, but very memorable rock songs- great for people in their mid 20s-early 30s. The pin up posters are also fun and the whole room buzzes with positive energy. Everyone that I ran into here was outgoing, fun and friendly.
Another plus is that it is easy to get to since it is in close proximity to the subway and a lot of cute restaurants. They have an eclectic and unusual selection of drinks at good prices. They even post daily specials on their twitter page.
Great atmosphere & burlesque on Thursdays. Nurse Bettie has just started a new burlesque show on Thursday nights that's free of cover, for now, I think. It starts at 10 pm and its' every Thursday night hosted by Calamity Chang. She has about 4-5 girls doing different burlesque acts and there's a sexy gogo dancer in the window peephole! It's really fun! you cant go wrong with drinks, a cool neighborhood gem, and a free burlesque show! the people that come to this bar are cool too. not overly hipster but not fraternity either.
Fantastic Cocktails..!!!. I just happened upon nurse bettie last Sunday night with my boyfriend and a few friends and we were delighted with our experience!! The bartender (I don't remember his name but he has a mohawk and said he works there sundays & mondays) made us delightful cocktails, some with egg-whites, some with basil and jalapeno or you can just tell him what flavors your like and he'll make you a custom cocktail... It truly was a delight and I look forward to many more cocktails @ Nurse Bettie.
Best Bar in the LES. My favorite neighborhood spot. Drinks are always great, music is always on point, bartenders are all awesome and the owner is the nicest guy on the block.
Inviting atmosphere, hot bartenders, great drink prices. I really want to be selfish and not give Nurse Bettie all the props it deserves (want to keep this gem my own little secret--once you go, you'll know why). I've been to NB a few times now, and it's always goooood times. The atmposhere is hot ala Bettie Page style pin-ups, the bartenders are not only funny but they're also way cool, and the drink prices are right on. I work in an industry that allows me to sample some of the best, new hot spots, and many times I'm left feeling blah about the experience-pretentious doorman, overpriced & watered down drinks, and a space filled with way too many pretty people. Nurse Bettie breaks the mold. It's destined to be the new LES hotspot.
Best Specialty Martinis. Super cool, trendy, 50s pin-up style bar with excellent specialty martinis. My favorite is the Bazooka Bettie, their bubblegum martini. Service is very attentive & friendly... definitely worth checking out! And don't forget to check out the bathroom! :)
relaxed chill atmosphere. Bartender, bouncer and owners have been friendly both times my friends and i have gone here. The decor and entire feel of this small bar is sultry. drinks are on key. the dirty martini and specialty drinks are tasteful. I like this place because it doesnt get too packed to the point where it is elbow to elbow. The burlesque show was very entertaining. must go again!
Great new place in the LES. I accidentaly came across Nurse Bettie and have to say what a find. From the laid-back attitude of the staff to the great drink prices, NB hits the bulleyes as a new fresh place to frequent. The pin-up art and the ladies behind the bar are easy-on-the-eyes. Ask for a naughty nurse shooter! I'll definitely come back.
A friendly little neighborhood bar with a preference for cocktails and pin-ups..
In Short
There's an inkling of an old-time peep show in the tinted windows' cut-out keyholes and portraits of 1950s pin-ups provocatively posed. Filling out the rest of the tiny room is a laid-back neighborhood vibe--the punky bartenders hail mostly from CBGBs and at any given moment at least a handful of the patrons are their friends. Order a vodka tonic, and the bartender may turn it around on you, proposing a dash of blueberry or one of their inventive martinis.
