What People Are Saying About GalleryBar

Gallery by day and bar by night, this Lower East Side lounge wants to take the atmosphere of an art opening and repeat it every night. The spacious showroom has a basic palette of black walls and brown banquettes, a backdrop against which the contemporary local artwork can stand out. If you'd rather invest in romance with a good-looking hipster, the best bet is late on the weekends, when DJs are playing a popular mix and the clandestine basement lounge is open.
Editor's Tips
- The Extras:
- A vintage photo booth is tucked away next to the red-lit bathrooms reminiscent of a dark room, where some photo strips are displayed on the walls.
- When to Go:
- The bar serves booze whether it's daytime or nighttime.
- Look Good:
- The basement lounge, with its own private bar and custom music controls, can be rented for large private parties.
- Food Served:
- There's no kitchen on the premises, but the bartender will gladly call over an order from Bruschetteria on Rivington.

Spend New Year's Eve 2011 at Gallery Bar for a picturesque party destination!
In the trendy and dynamic Lower East Side, Gallery Bar offers a different approach and perspective to art. This bi-level lounge has exposed brick walls decorated with an endless amount of artwork created by young talented artists. Adorned with brown cracked leather banquettes, weathered wooden tables, and distressed mirrors Gallery Bar provides an artistically rustic look. The low ceiling lounge in the basement ignites a feeling of intimacy and creativity while the photo booth allows you to create your own art. Owners Derrek Vernon, Darin Rubell, and Josh Boyd aspired to combine art and nightlife and the result was this art gallery by day/hipster lounge by night.
Some of New York City’s eclectic and musically skilled DJs have played here spinning everything from funk to hip-hop to rock to pop, keeping you constantly on your feet. The large array of creatively mixed cocktails include the Peter Tunney (Starr African Rum, muddled fresh limes, mint, sugar, splash of soda - fresh sugar cane) and their specialty cocktail called the Picasso (Patron Platinum, grand Marnier, fresh lime juice with a splash of OJ). The Gallery Bar will surely transform how you see art this New Year’s Eve!

Place is pretty good -- plenty of hot chciks and the music was off the hook -- got kind of crowded downstairs tho. will definitely go back with the crew again...
Fun Bar with inexpensive drinks and awesome music
by Athena Chang , Citysearch Contributor
I stopped by Gallery bar for a birthday party on Saturday night and it was so much fun! The DJ was great! He didn't play the current hits only; instead, he mixed in tons of old school hip hop with several current hits so we were all in the groove.
The drinks are about $7, which is very reasonable for a nice lounge/bar with people dancing.
I definitely will come back again for a nice night out!
If I could give it less than 1 star I would
by twenty something
I came here to celebrate my birthday with a large group of friends and will never return after the way we were treated. On 3 separate occasions, the same bus boy intentionally spilled buckets of water/beer/alcohol on myself and other members of my party. I understand it's a crowded bar, but this bus boy made threats and then proceeded to drench people in this beer/water- these were not accidents. The bouncer even had to kick the bus boy out for being rude and obnoxious. Then another friend went to the bar to get a shot and was given a shot with a piece of glass in it!!! Luckily he only cut his mouth and didn't swallow it! To top it all off, Gallery included a gratuity fee on the bill for each bottle we bought and then demanded that we tip them again on top of that!
Bottom line - Go somewhere else and do not let this place ruin your night.
