Absolutely Fantastic

by MD71 at Citysearch

I've been attending D-Dojo for a year now and the experience has been fantastic. For years I went to the gym as many New Yorkers do but I found those workouts to be boring and found it difficult to stay motivated. I decided to give karate a try and I'm glad I did!

Karate is captivating, stimulating and challenging. Sensei Igor is a great teacher of this great discipline. He is attentive to each of his student's capabilities, potential and difficulties. He has great motivation skills, one of his best attributes, and spends time with each student to make sure they learning and practicing properly.

D-Dojo is a non-violent approach to karate, you will not walk out with bruises or bumps - unlike some other dojos. Sensei Igor focuses heavily on technique, and perfecting the different elements that form karate (kihon, kata and kumite) in each student.

Personally, I have found karate at D-Dojo to be very energizing and it helps me manage stress. My level of fitness and stamina and sense of well-being has improved massively in my time with Sensei Igor. Practicing karate requires concentration and attention to detail and allows me to forget about clients, bosses and other daily hassles.

I practice twice a week with Sensei Igor and every day that I do, I can't wait to get out of the office to train at D-Dojo. My only regret is that I only discovered D-Dojo a year ago and not earlier!

The Best Karate School in NYC!

by Mike J Mc at Citysearch

Going to karate class at D-Dojo every week is something I really look forward to, and I hate when my schedule gets me so busy it keeps me from going (I'm an actor, so my schedule can get pretty crazy), but even with a sometimes busy schedule, the way classes are set up makes it easy to work around even the busiest. And believe me, it's definitely worth it, taking an hour or two a couple days a week to stress relieve is really nice. But it's more than just that. Working with Sensei Igor Dyachenko, even for just the few months I've been there, has been really great and I've learned so much. He's dedicated to each and every student, and makes sure you know and understand not only WHAT you're doing, but WHY it needs to be done a certain way (whether to keep yourself from getting hurt, or to make sure you're hitting where you need to, etc). He also recognizes the strengths and weaknesses of his students and adapts to their needs. For example, in addition to acting, I'm also an experienced dancer, so I'm already pretty flexible. He likes to use this fact to push me harder, make me stretch farther, kick higher, whatever the case may be, and as much I may complain that he's harder on me in that regard, I'm glad for the fact that I have someone who is willing to not let me just go on cruise control. Like I said, he has that personal interest in every student's growth that I feel really sets him apart in a good way. There's also a great sense of community within the Dojo. You quickly get to know the other students, and we help to hold each other accountable and willing to help each other out.

excellent karate dojo!

by gubsfs at Citysearch

D-Dojo is an exceptional school of modern Japanese karate thanks to the dedication of Igor Dyachenko. Igor is a world champion in Shotokan yet he is humble and extremely dedicated to teaching and developing his students. He is very rigorous and focuses on technique. He makes sure the basics are understood and perfected before progressing to more advanced techniques and katas. It is also an incredible workout, with excellent stretching, endurance training, aerobic exercise, mind control, and meditation. A highly recommended way to relieve stress in today?s environment. Also, a great way to get back into shape. The environment is very welcoming regardless of the level. I am 49 years old and look forward to the training sessions at D-Dojo. It?s fun, healthy, and keeps me going in the complex NY environment. Eddie
