Middle of the road Italian.
We had walked by this place and thought it was cute, so we called to make a reservation on Friday, but was only able to get a 6:30p,, reservation instead of the 7pm we wanted and thought we got lucky.
However, the food was ok but overpriced, we weren't served bread (which is probably better for us) but was still something we noticed. And we noticed that it was still 50% empty at 7-8pm (so why deny us a 7pm reservation?).
Overall, the atmosphere was cute, but I we have other Italian restaurants we enjoy more to try them again.
Expensive & Uninviting. Morandi's is expensive, serving weak drinks by barmen with an attitude. I wouldn't bother; too many other cool places in the Village without wasting an evening of your life on this place.
Its true horrible service. This waiter could not even explain the food on the menu. Waiter keep on forgetting my side orders. This place is a joke.
quite a scene. The brussel sprout salad was unique and delicious. We had a wonderful Sardinian wine. The fish was simply prepared and flavorful. The risotto was very nice. Don't expect big portions. The night we went the outdoor dining was closed, so the indoor space was plenty crowded. It was hard to push your chair back because the tables were so tight. But we didn't mind. Our waitress got to us anyway, and we got everything we needed. For dessert we had the tiramisu which was good but I have had better. Overall, it is a fun, happening place with inventive and tasty food.
Great food!. I went with a few friends last week for dinner and had a great time. The staff was very friendly and warm. The food was delicious! This is the place! I started with mussels which were very tasty, I then had a pasta with pepper and cheese which was amazing. The best part about it was the wine choices. I went with several friends how like different wines. We were all able to order quartino's which made us all happy. This is the place for great food and wine.
i love this place!. I've been to Morandi a few times and every time I go it gets better and better. The food is exceptional and the house wines are delicious. The setting and staff were great. I recommend Morandi to everyone at any time.
Terrible Service. I have never writen a review anywhere before. The maitre ds who were supposed to assist us were beyond rude and unaccomodating. We got to Morandi early and asked for a table. Although there were plenty of free tables we were told they were all booked and there would be a wait, which is fine. After an hour at the bar we inquired about our table and was told our place was lost. The maitre d did not offer to find us a table, say they were sorry about the mix-up, etc. Instead, we were told we could wait another hour for a table - all while we got to watch other groups who got there after us, get a table before us. When we raised this point, the maitre ds were offended, argued with us, told us we did not run the place and told us we could wait our turn (again). Whatevs. I will never go here again (even though I live down the block) and have never experienced anyone at any restaurant be so rude to a group of people.
Italian delight!. We dropped in recently to Morandi at 7:30 on a Saturday night. They had a table for us! The food was absolutely delicious, starter, pasta, lamb shank, dessert and coffee. And contrary to some reviews here, the service was superb. Our waiter was Italian, seemingly with all the time in the world for us. We asked questions, got recommendations, and he advised us in detail about menu choices and wine. Then I noticed the same careful attention to our neighbors' tables, all evening long. Assistant waiters were attentive but not intrusive. This was a delightful find. The sauces and menu choices, in general, conveyed a thoughtful kitchen, and reflected the best of Italian 'home' cooking.
Good Brunch.
Morandi was on my list for quite a while.
I loved the simple and yummy bruschetta con ricotta.
Everything else was also good, not great.
I will go back for a dinner reservation soon and write a better review.
Clean bathrooms I love, the service was a bit rushed.
Timing is everything. We went on saturday night of July 4th weekend and walked right in(4 people) with no reservations at around 830 pm and were seated immediately. For starters, the drink menu is pretty good. For appetizers,I had the octopus and celery-which was very good, but a bit on the small side. Our whole table was happy with their first dish. For a main course I had the cacio e pepe, which was very good-it was very peppery-which it should be,and the pasta was cooked just right. My friends were equally impressed with their dinner choices.I don't think they were as impressed with dessert.Overall it was a bit pricey, but it's a nice space, the food was very good and service was very good.I know -we went on a weekend when the hottest spots are notoriously less crowded(thats exactly why we went when we did)but I would definitely recommend this restaurant.
