Good pizza – I have had the privilege of obtaining this minor jewel of a pizzeria. The charges are outstanding for delivery or carry-out. The pizza quality is pretty excellent provided the very low finances busting price tags. I would highly recommend this pizzeria as a superior pizza with a super worth.
Good service – I really liked the service. Very good service.
Excellent fast service, VERY friendly staff and a lot of pleasant things.

Great casual Italian – First of all, if you’re interested in pizza, my review will not be helpful - I haven’t had pizza here or anywhere else for several years, so I can’t comment on Il Brigante’s pizza.
But if you’re interested in other dishes Il Brigante has to offer and are looking for a casual dining experience in this area, I would certainly recommend it. The place is rather small and cozy with simple unpretentious décor. Because the place is small and busy, it can get pretty noisy, especially when neighborhood regulars come with kids, so I would not recommend it for a romantic date.
The food is fresh, delicious and simple in the best sense of this word, it has a home cooked feel to it. I usually stick to salads and secondi piatti (fish and chicken). Everything I’ve tried has been excellent.
Here are my all time favorites:
Burrata appetizer - this is the most creamy, silky mozzarella you have ever tried in your life!!! It’s not on the menu but it often makes an appearance as a special.
Cauliflower side dish – oven-baked cauliflower with béchamel sauce. OMG, I start salivating just writing about it. I get it every time I come here. It’s a must.
Spaghetti alla Carbonara – I try not to eat pasta… on a rare occasion when I feel like “cheating,” I get this. It’s perfectly al dente and absolutely delicious. Totally worth breaking the “low simple carbs” eating regimen
Grilled seafood special – get it when they offer it. It’s great (and healthy too )
And last but not least: desserts… Tiramisu is great. But what can I say – I’m simply addicted to Il Brigante Cassata. It’s not a traditional cassata layer cake but rather an individual tart of almond paste filled with ricotta. Irresistible.
The service is friendly and attentive. Staff does a great job navigating in this small space and being there for you when you need them.
Al l in all, a very enjoyable dinner experience in a relaxed friendly atmosphere. Perfect for friends going out or just for having dinner when you don’t feel like cooking at home.
Best pizza ever!!! – Pizza there is magnificent! My husband and kids fell in love with it. Salad were fresh and delicious, tiramisu was amazing.
Good food and cozy interiors – My mom, sister and I went to New York last year and were walking around looking for a good view of Brooklyn Bridge when we decided to look somewhere nearby for some place to eat before heading to Port 17 (?). We found Il Brigante while walking along Fulton Street and decided to go in because of the warm looking interiors.
I don't remember which items exactly we ordered but I remember ordering calamari, pizza and ravioli. It was great. Not too bland or too rich and the service was not bad. I was reading other reviews here about the bad service and didn't experience that at all. The food didn't take long to arrive and waiting time was just enough to enjoy the ambiance. Their interiors were fitting for the seaport area. It really is a good place to eat and would recommend it to family and friends who are looking for good Italian food on a nice sunny day at the seaport area.
Once is too much – If this place is trying to cater to tourists who will only come in once, it's doing a decent job. If it's looking for repeat customers, it should revamp management entirely.
The manager, John (that is the name he gave, but given how clearly awful his behavior was, I wouldn't blame him if he lied about it), should not be working in the customer service industry. From the moment we entered the restaurant, he was rude. He made a snide comment about the stroller we were tucking into a corner out of the way of all traffic.
His rudeness was consistent, topped off by his comments to the two of us about 2 minutes after our pizza arrived, to tell us the restaurant had a minimum, so next time, we would not be welcome to come in to have a pizza. Had he talked to his waiter, he might have known that we ordered the pizza as a starter. After his comment, however, the pizza became the meal. In any event, if the place does not want people to eat pizza, why have it on the menu? Since when is a 10 inch pizza for two people not enough food for lunch?
The pizza was decent, though nothing great. John needs to go work in a basement somewhere. Clearly, he should not be around people. Contrary to what some others have said in their reviews, there are other real and good Italian restaurants downtown. I recommend highly you seek them out and avoid Il Brigante.
the only real italian restaurant in downtown – I've just discovered this pearl and it was such a pleasant surprise:good pizza and very light!
i haven't tried the rest ,but looking at some plates that went by they seemed good and smelled good.
No complaint really on the service: the boys were friendly and took good care od us.
Bad service, decent food – We live in the neighborhood and have seen the place before, so we finally stopped it because it looks nice--exposed brick, open oven, nice atmosphere. We ordered an appetizer and our entrees. They brought us our drinks, bread, and salad in a timely manner.
In the midst of finishing the salad, our waiter asked if we would move tables so that the restaurant could accommodate a large group of 10, 4 adults and 6 children. The table they offered us in its place was right next to the door, so we declined. The only other table they had to offer us was next to a man with his daughter who had been crying the whole time we'd been there, so we declined that table as well. They kept saying that the man with his daughter was about to leave as they had paid their bill, but the waiter cleared us up from our table before they had a different table set up for us so we had to stand around for awhile. After they finally got us a table, we were feeling pretty annoyed so we decided we'd rather pay for the appetizer and just leave. The manager came over and tried to talk us out of it, but we kept insisting we wanted to leave, so she basically held us there until our entrees came out and then said, oh well your food's here already, and then walked away. The waiter said he would offer us free desert or a glass of wine, but we don't drink and a $5 tiramisu isn't adequate compensation for moving people who have already started their meal. I pointed that out to them as well as that the large group they let in were clearly tourists whereas we lived in the neighborhood and would likely have come back if the service hadn't been so poor. The manager then brought us the menu and said we could order anything on it on the house (I wonder if we could have ordered a steak to go?), so we finally just told her to take one of our entrees off the bill but that we would pay for the appetizer and the other entree. When she brought us the bill, she had taken off the appetizer and left both entrees on the bill. We just paid it so we could get out of there because we were so annoyed and weren't able to enjoy our meals, though the food itself was fine.
I should also mention that though they seated the 6 kids, after a few minutes, the kids decided to go outside and play football, so restaurant didn't even end up needing our table.
I'm sorry that you had an unpleasant experience at our restaurant. Your case was really an exception and not the rule. Although we try hard to make all our customers happen, inevitably a few mistakes are made by us and once in a while some customers do not get the service they deserve. I'm sorry that this was your case and I would like to invite you back to give us another chance. The fact that 90% of our clientele are repeat customers who come multiple times a week to eat attests to the fact that the majority of the time we make our customers happy.
Nice cozy place with delicious food! – I love SEaport area on a nice sunny day. Last Saturday I found another jewelry hidden - beautiful italian rustic trattoria with a brick oven for pizza lovers. I am not a pizza fun, but it was just amazing-thin crust, crispy with fresh rucola and best prosciutto i've tried. And spaghetti carbonara was just perfect,
I love the seaport area and last Saturday I found a hidden jewel behind Fulton street.good food and service but the pizza was the highlight . Delicious well cooked but simply delicious. A nice joint with real Italians!!!
