Amazing, Kind and Real
by alison c70 at Citysearch
I initially went to Dr Gelbard after reading the book Mrs Astor Regrets and hearing how much she did for New York City's Beloved Brooke Astor.
I had just gone through menopause and was feeling exhausted and depressed. She gave me a complete physical, went through all the notes of my prior physicians (even called some of them while I was in the room with her), and then listened with extreme focus as I explained my symptoms. I had a few friends who had been to Dr Gelbard and gave her rave reviews, but I honestly did not expect her to be this great. She got to the root of my issues and I have never felt better. It turned out I had a few things that were off balance and we have now corrected them all. I feel as though I have a new lease on life. Best of all, I can always check in with her and feel as though I am going to see my friend, not just my doctor. She is an inspiration to all women. She is completely accessible and always makes you feel heard. It is very apparent that she truly loves what she does!
A True Find! Like Having a Doctor in the Family!
by Susanberl at Citysearch
I have been a patient of Dr Gelbards for almost 5 years now and had no idea about all her amazing online reviews. After reading them i decided to add to the mix.
She truly is the best doctor you can find in this city.
It is like having a doctor in the family. She actually carries a cell phone on her at all times so her patients can reach her with any true emergencies.
I went to her when I was 35 years old for no real reason other than I was getting a bit older and wanted to remain as healthy as I had always been.
Sure enough I discovered i had a cholesterol issue and a vitamin D deficiency. Instead of starting me on medications right away, as most physicians would have, she offered me natural supplements which naturally lowered my cholesterol to where it should be.
Dr Gelbard is so thorough. When you have a complaint she truly listens and you can see her really thinking until she exausts all possibilities. Over the years I have come to put my complete trust in her.
I had a friend in Florida who was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. Her doctors just threw the diagnosis at her and she really didnt understand the disease, how they were certain she had it, or what the treatment would be. I suggested she fly up to NYC and see Dr Gelbard. Dr Gelbard sat with her for over an hour, reviewed all her blood work, test results and asked a bunch of questions. It turned out my friend was misdiagnosed and had Lyme disease! She was put on a 3 week course of antibiotics and cured!
Needless to say, I cannot say enough about Dr Gelbard!
Best doctor

I met Dr Gelbard after reading her reviews on this web site. I have to say that I have never felt compelled to write a review for any doctor till I met her. I want to thank her because she saved my life.
I have not been feeling well for quite sometime now. Based on the reviews I got a sense that she would listen to me. I am happy to say she did. She took over 40 minutes and listened to all my concerns. Ironically at my follow up appt she went over my lab results and she did not find anything unusual. However I expressed to her that I still felt something was wrong with me. I was afraid she would send me away but she didn't. She sent me for further testing and to my surprise it was discovered that I have Cancer. Now this was not the news that I wanted to hear. What I find impressive and forever will be grateful was how she helped me during this time. Even before she gave me the news she already had called and made arrangements for me to meet with my surgeon. Of course when she told me the bad news I was shaking and crying but she told me that this Cancer has a good prognosis and she reassured me that I would be ok. She helped me to find the other doctors that I will need. I will have surgery soon and pray that everything will be o.k. I want to thank her with all my heart because she listened to me. I know she was God sent.

Great Internist, Best in New York
by Matthewpons at Citysearch
i had been to multiple "specialists" in nyc but it wasn't until I went to Dr Gelbard that I was offered a comprehensive understanding of what my medical issues were.
She listened with all the patience in the world, asked me a bunch of questions, went through all my old lab and test results. She then even got on the phone, while I was sitting in her office and spoke with some of the doctors who had previously taken care of me. I had never had any doctor do this. My symptoms had been going on for three years and she got right to the cause of them. She has a great team of people she works with and they all update her regularly so I dont have to be an interpreter. After 4 months I was symptom free and owe it all to her.
It is very apparent that this doctor truly enjoys her work.
She was recommended to me by a bunch of people in my apt building, who swear by her. I will never go anywhere else.
- Pros: Smart, Spends aot of time, Runs on Time
Best Internist in NYC
by Julie R at Citysearch
I agree with the great reviews of Dr. Sandra Gelbard, she is amazing. Two friends referred me to her (they have been patients for years) and I had such a positive experience I have sent two co-workers who are also now big fans.
It's obvious that she cares about her patients. During my physical I just went on and on about the smallest worries and she listened and responded thoughtfully to everything! She didnt make me feel rushed at all. I had been looking for an internist since moving back to NYC 4 years ago and have never come close to finding someone like Dr. Gelbard. Also, when you have an urgent issue she is completely accessible.
The office is beautiful, clean and in a very convenient location. Best of all, her practice prides themselves on a very short wait time. They schedule on patient an hour, which is unheard of in this city. I have never had to wait more than 5 minutes for my appointment!
- Pros: Superb Doctor- caring, great listener, very accessible
- Cons: Office on 10th floor, not ground
