Jimmy's No. 43, tucked down below street level, is great for beer, delicious nibbles, or shooting the breeze with Jimmy himself.
A subterranean gastropub, Jimmy's is under the radar both literally and figuratively, but the place has an impeccable, beautifully curated beer selection and constantly overachieves with its creative, meaty menu.
Underground cute Craft Beer Spot.
Jimmy's No 43 looks so shabby outside that I never walked in since I moved to East Village 4 years ago. Due to a coupon offering, I found out on Yelp that it has excellent reviews and I finally paid my first visit last night.
Truth to be told, I was quite impressed with the beer menu and quality of food. they have a good selection of craft beer and some of them appear to be seasonal. Also, their food is locally sourced so they are fresh and mostly organic I believe.
My boyfriend tried their local oyster, which comes in 1 plate of 3 for $5. We ordered the Piggery farm sausage and the Shrimp gritte for dinner. The flavor is just amazing. Each dish looks quite simple but the flavor is rich and explosive.
the only negative thing is it is VERY hot in there. I don't know if their AC broke or something but the fans are not strong enough for sure so be aware.
A favorite neighborhood treat. I've been so happy to have this place in the 'hood ever since it opened. Jimmy's is a real community place - with a great atmosphere and a staff that recognizes you and treats you right. And, this is about the only place where I eat a nice dinner with a BEER, not wine (not that Jimmy doesn't have good wine, too, but the beer is so top notch!). Just love it, and love Jimmy himself, too!
Best place for a classy beer.
Try the risotto! I am a vegetarian and the menu does not offer me a wide selection, but the selection it does offer is pretty great.
And the beers are always great. Even better are Jimmy's frequents tastings and events which always make a great evening out.
Best place for unusual beers!.
Jimmy's may be off the beaten path a little but that just adds to its uniqueness. Great beer selection and tasty appetizer foods paired well with beer. Sausage, cheese, and toasted nuts were excellent! We have taken others there over the past two years and will continue to visit when in the City.

One of My Favorite Places. Jimmy's #43 is one of my favorite places to enjoy a tasty meal. The beer selection is excellent, and not the things you'll find on tap everywhere else; there's always enough diversity that there will be at least three I'll try in a sitting. The food is excellent, and pairs well with their beers; the servers are very friendly and can assist with your choices. I hosted an informal board meeting here, and even the vegetarians said that the food was enticing, even the sausage appetizer.
Top-notch music, beer, and people!.
Jimmy Carbone is probably one of the friendliest persons and restaurant owners you'll ever meet. He is almost always on site, ensuring that his patrons are having an outstanding experience. Pile on great beers, delightful food, and an equally delightful staff, and you have a gem.
There's a back room for live music, and Jimmy is always having outstanding events to bring in unique food and beverages for NYC.
The choice of where to eat in the city has never been simpler.
My favorite place in the East Village - hands down!. Jimmy Carbone is the patron saint of the East Village. Jimmy's No. 43 is an oasis of great food, amazing atmosphere and market fresh and original food. I consider this a jewel in the East Village and all my local (as well as out of town) friends LOVE it and return time and time again. The hand selected beer and wine list is reasonably priced and always a treat.
Overpriced Sticky Slum.
Ok, they have a wide variety of beers to choose from - that's great -
but you could also buy a pretty good brand 6-pack for the price of one glass here.
4 beers can easily get you to a $100 tab. Other bars are taking the economy into
consideration and there is no reason to squander for these random selections.
I enjoy splurging on food and drink - but you can't even get a good bite here.
Maybe that is the strategy - having to wash more beer down to drown out the bad food.
I don't often write bad reviews, but bad food, overpriced beer, and a everything you touch
in the place is sticky deserves a demerit.
Mediocre food, small portions.
Went here with 3 others. The food had some ambition (or is it pretentiousness?), but execution of it was utterly mediocre. Portion sizes were on the small side - for the price I would have expected at least better execution or larger portions. I wouldn't waste my money here on the food again.
The bar seems OK, so only worth going if you are drinking and not planning on eating.
