In Short
One can almost imagine monks settling down for a goblet of cask ale at this subterranean East Village pub, although a well-dressed, relaxed crowd of locals is what you'll find nowadays. Dim lights embrace antlers and decorative wooden casks in a warm glow as patrons sip from an impressive array of local, German and Belgian brews, or dine from an organic market-driven menu full of dishes like steamed mussels, shrimp and grits, and lamb chorizo. Whether you consider it a bar with amazing food or a restaurant with amazing beer, you'll likely leave this cozy spot satisfied.

Ok, they have a wide variety of beers to choose from - that's great - but you could also buy a pretty good brand 6-pack for the price of one glass here. 4 beers can easily get you to a $100 tab. Other bars are taking the economy into consideration and there is no reason to squander for these random selections. I enjoy splurging on food and drink - but you can't even get a good bite here. Maybe that is the strategy - having to wash more beer down to drown out the bad food. I don't often write bad reviews, but bad food, overpriced beer, and a everything you touch in the place is sticky deserves a demerit.

Went there last night with a large group for a birthday dinner. We had an awesome time and the staff was great to us even though we were slightly louder and rowdier than the crowd they usually get. We tried a bunch of different beers and had a couple of great bottles of wine. Since there were so many of us, we kind of went tapas style and just ordered lots of things to share. Everything was delicious! I would highly recommend both the shrimp and squash blossom entrees. Definitely will be going back.
