It's like the closest you wish you had. While not a HUGE store, they seem to have everything you would want and yet the store is not overwhelming. The owner Taz and her staff are extremely, extremely helpful with suggestions, listing to questions/problems and just being great animal people. Store delivers and the groomers are great.

My little guys wants to go in every time we walk by just to say hello and get some affection!

Hand Stripping for Terriers. Looking for the best hand stripper or terriers in town? Then ask for Angie at Petropolis. I have been bringing my 3 year old border terrier to Angie since he was 10 months old. She has made what could be a potentiallyl stressful grooming experience into a manageable situation. She is kind, gentle, and Augge always comes out looking like he is ready to walk in the show ring. We moved away from the area and tried one other groomer...and immediately came back to Angie even though it is quite hard for us get there. She's worth it!

Great Grooming Job. If you want a good groomer go to Petropolis. I brought my Irish Setter to Angie one of the groomers and she did a great job. My dog came out with her beautiful red coat shiny and soft. Her ears were cut just the right length and her coat flowed perfectly.

I have switched groomers a number of times because my dog always came out with a choppy appearance but Angie did a really professional job. I am so happy I have finally found a groomer that knows how to cut. We will be a regular customer at Petropolis. It is a stiop store. They have great holistic food and a very knowledgeable staff.

Finally found a great dog groomer!. Until the groomers at Petropolis starting giving my dog a bath, I would have to change groomers every few months because nobody could handle him. One groomer suggested that I sedate him before a bath, which I refused to do. The groomers at Petropolis clean and dry my dog so well that he smells clean for weeks. They are not only able to give him a bath (and I can only imagine put up with his incessant whining), with seemingly no trouble, but they cut his nails! Yay! My guy is very happy to go with the groomer each time she takes him in, so he must love it there. Everyone at Petropolis, including the groomer I've met, is extremely kind and understanding. We are very happy with all of the services (including stocking the dog food and snacks we use and suggesting remedies when my guy is ailing) at Petropolis. And my three year old loves to visit the store, too!

IF YOUR LOOKING FOR A GREAT GROOMER PETROPOLIS IS THE PLACE. I have tried many Groomers in the City but until I found Petropolis I was never really satisfied when Angie groomed my Toy Poodle I was totally satisfied with the excellent hair cut, she made my little girl look like a puppy again. My dog is getting on in years and needs special attention and she got it at Petropolis.

Also they have a great selection of food and Tazz the owner was very helpful with getting my dog on the right diet.

Fabulous Dog Grooming. Angie the dog groomer at Petropolis gave my two shih tzu dogs fantastic haircuts. I love the way she consulted with me before she cut their hair. She listened to what I needed and also made good suggestions on what was best for my dogs. My dogs are hair dogs and they mat up very easily. Angie recommended keeping their hair short, but was able to cut their hair in such a way that they were able to maintain that cute fluffly look I love so much. In addition, Angie is a very caring and humane person who loves animals and gives them lots of personal attention. She treated my dogs with sensitivity, respect and kindness. As a result, my dogs don't fear going to her for haircuts. Petropolis is great store. They also offer low cost health clinics for dogs.

By Far,The Best, Most Caring, Animal Loving Store in the City!. I have 2 dacshunds and Petropolis is by far the best organic and green friendly pet store in the City. Tazz and her staff are always Knowledgeable about their products and are very passionate about the types of food and products offered to their clients. I had always given my dogs mainstream dog food until they explained the benefits of natural/organic food and the importance of encorporating vegetables into their dried food.

Always great service and reasonable prices! They have even been able to drop off my order when I haven't been able to leave work in time to get to the store. I highly recommend this store and staff!

If you love your dog, find a different groomer. Pros: this store has great dog toys at prices that seem reasonable for the city.

Cons: owner SEEMS knowledgeable about her products yet she sold me food claiming it was for all stages and it turned out to be unsuitable for puppies. For the unsatisfied dog owner that claimed they would keep coming back for the food, I suggest you try Whiskers--better prices and they deliver.

I hoped to give my pet a pampering first cut. She came back in half the time they said they would use (too many dogs and they rushed through it). She was completely but unevenly shaven and terrified. She was sick and lethargic for days. The groomer and owner discounted vet advice that I had been given, speaking poorly of the vet without knowing the first thing about the health issue. I watched Angie roughly handle my dog by herself, though I was told when I made the appt. that for a puppy's first time, they use two groomers and are gentle and allow for play time and breaks. My incredibly gentle 4 lb puppy (she would lick a burglar) was described as viscious and dominant. I brushed and combed her every day using their detangling products but there was indeed some matting near the skin. However, I was scolded and patronized and then billed $95.00 for an uneven shave of a dog that could be picked up with one hand. When I asked why it was uneven, they were incredibly rude and told me that it was the dog's fault. Everyone in the store likened my dog to Kujo, and I can only say that I can't blame her. Also, I was shocked that they cut all of her whiskers off. I didn't recognze my dog when I picked her up and I still feel so bad that I ever took her to Petropolis where she received horrible care. People that saw her before and after said that she looked like she had done hard time in prison. They don't know the half of it. If you love your dog, DO NOT TAKE YOUR DOG HERE FOR GROOMING!

GREATEST PET SUPPLY BOUTIQUE EVER. I almost don't know where to start with my compliments for Petropolis. I never shop anywhere else because as a dog owner and lover, this is EXACTLY the kind of store that I want in my neighborhood and I want to give 100% of my business to this wonderful establishment. Anyone who has been in the store will know the owner - Tazz - who is the most genuine animal lover I've ever come across. Her passion for animals is evidenced by her extensive knowledge (which is great for us first-time doggie parents) and her refusal to carry any non-healthy, mass produced foods and products. Other dog owners that I've met in Battery Park and along the promenade also swear by Tazz and Petropolis as it is a haven for those who love their animals and want only the best for their furry friends. When I say "the best" please do not confuse this for "the most expensive" because that could not be further from the truth. Sure, natural and healthy food is not going to be the same price as Alpo, but if you care about your dog's health and well-being you wouldn't feed your dog grocery-store brands anyway. Even the big chains (i.e. Petco) are beginning to embrace the natural, holistic brands but - contrary to what you may think - the prices for the "good stuff" are higher at Petco than at Petropolis! As for products like leashes and toys, I'm always amazed at how reasonably priced these items are at Petropolis. I found the EXACT SAME faux-croc print harness-leash combo: Trixie & Peanut - $79, Petropolis - $30!! I couldn't believe it. A few years ago I bought one of those "gentle spray" barking collars at Petco for $180.... just saw it at Petropolis for $80! I asked Tazz about it and her stance is that she refuses to take advantage of her customers, just because this is Manhattan and people are used to price inflation. She truly is amazing and this is reflected by her fabulous store. Owning a small business is hard work and I want to see Petropolis here for years to come.

Good food horrible service and grooming. I moved into the neighborhood from the UWS about 4 months ago. I enjoyed visiting petropolis to buy food and treats for my dog from time to time. So I figured I would try out the groomers. My parents were coming into town and I wanted my dog bathed (i.e. smelling fresh for their visit). I booked the appointment about a week in advance. However when I arrived I was told they were running behind. They took my dog almost 2 hours after the schedule time. I told them I was going to go shopping but to call me when my dog was done. I never received a call. When I returned he was sitting in a crate much too small for him and I was told he had been there for about half an hour. When I asked why they hadn't called, the woman at the front desk got very rude and told me "this is not my job". Additionally, I was appalled by the price. They charged me $60 for a bath and when I didn't tip the groomer and front desk woman definitely gave me the look like I was low class. Now I don't know if the prices are this high, but in the UWS I can get a groom and a bath for $60.

Overall, I would still buy food here (just because I have no choice) but I will never have my dog groomed here again.

I take great care with our customers and am always open to clearing up any misunderstandings or issues - I do believe I know who the writer is as it is a rare occurance for us to have problems or complaints - so yes there are always 2 sides to a story...This person is welcome to come in and talk to me any time and in this great city we have so many choices in regards to where we want to spend our money and I, as a business owner, am very aware of this and will always appreciate the people that choose to shop with us. Tazz
