As good as it gets!
by kd1845 at Citysearch
The Salty Paw - for doggy day camp, grooming and as a boutique - is as good as it gets. My guy has been a regular there for a few years now and I would never consider letting him spend his time or get groomed anywhere else. Judging by the way he sprints to get there (not an easy task for a 63 pound English bulldog), I'm confident he'd say the same thing! The doggy day camp and store staff are incredible, sweet, patient, kind and treat each dog like their own. May, the groomer, is a true gem. We've recently moved about an hour and a half north of NYC and I continue to bring my guy in at least once a week for day camp and grooming, so I can honestly say that we would absolutely not go anywhere else...it's worth the trip!
Excellent dog groomer

This is my first time writing a comment. I have a mini poodles and had tried virtually every groomer in the City when I found May at The Salty Paw. My dogs finally stopped "putting the brakes on" for grooming day, which told me right away that something was different. The haircut was perfect -- just what I asked for--I highly recommend May Groomer not only for their amazing haircuts but for the whole experience. You can always tell the people who really love animals .The shop is clean Plus the grooming stations are right out in the open so you can actually watch the animals getting their haircuts-it's just like a hair salon. The friendly, hard-working staff is also impressive and really nice to the dogs.
Impressive service!

I have a Shisu dog that is very naughty. I brought her to this grooming place about two weeks ago and was very impressed by the service they provided us there. I usually very busy working and doesn't have much time to brush my dog's hair. As a result, her hair always matted. When I brought her there, I asked the head groomer, May, whether we should rematted her hair or should we just shave it. She suggested that we should cut them because rematted the dog's hair is usually painful for the dog. Also, shaving her hair off might help she feels more comfortable. Even though my dog might look ugly, I chose to shaved her hair off regarding May's advice. All the staff here treated my dog gently with a lot of cares. There's no hitting, slapping like the other grooming places. It turn out to be awesome! My dog loves it and she just running around like a happy kid. . I also think it is cool to have a shorted-hair dog sometimes. The most impressive service here was the offering of free brush out on my next visit. May said that I could bring my Shisu in next month and she will teach me the correct way to brush her hair with less time consuming. I really, really appreciated her help. Although the grooming place is kind of small, but I really like the way they set things up in their shop. The warm color of the wall and music that they put on, I just love it! My dos is happy and seems to love her new haircut. I would recommend dog lovers to go to this place 'cause it won't disappointed you in any way
Best Grooming Spot for all Dogs
by dboulac at Citysearch
My dog Bear is very friendly, but does not like to be left at grooming spots at all. But since we started taking her to The Salty Paw she loves going to get groomed. We have had her trimmed and puppy cut there and they couldn't be more thorough with the consultation before she gets groomed. And every time I pick her up she is happy and looks amazing! Perfectly happy every time!!! They have a tremendous staff that is so friendly and helpful with everything as well.
My puppy means everything to my husband and I and I recommend The Salty Paw to anyone who wants the best for their dog.
I am the Owner of The Salty Paw
by tyrasblue at Citysearch
I am the owner of the Salty Paw and I would like to respond to this upsetting report from the dissatisfied client with the chow. I have tried to reach out to her privately to discuss this matter but unfortunately we have not heard from her. I now feel compelled to address these statements publicly because the circumstances and result that have been reported by this chow owner are not only false and very upsetting to all of us at the Salty Paw, but to our many loyal and concerned clients.
Perhaps the only thing more important to us at The Salty Paw than the satisfaction of our customers, is the care and well being of our animal clients– who we consider part of our "Paw" family, as evidenced by our numerous prior excellent reviews and countless satisfied customers.
Regarding this customer's comments, it so happens that I was present when she brought her chow in to redeem the complimentary dog grooming session they won at our last Halloween contest. The following is exactly what transpired:
The client specifically asked for a "lion’s cut". We had a 20-25 minute consultation with her, wherein our head groomer not only described in great detail what a "lion’s cut" entails, (very short body, long mane), we also told her what blade we would have to use to get it that short, and showed her sample pictures of what the style would look like. In addition we showed her the how very severe matted her chow was and explained that we would have to cut them out causing the shave to be even closer to the dog’s skin in order to achieve the desired "lions cut" style she asked for. The client agreed and was very excited.
Even though this dog
was very difficult to work with, our staff handled and groomed her with the same level of care and love we devote to all our clients. We know chows and have many chow clients, so we are fully aware of their needs and temperaments . In fact, during initial consultations with owners, we explain that some dogs will take longer to groom, depending on those individual needs & temperaments, so we may stop many times to give the dog a break, as we did in this case.
After the hair cut, this chow was bathed not once but twice because she needed it. And, as with all our grooming clients, bathing includes cleaning the ears, and brushing teeth. A total of four (4) hours was spent grooming this dog and she was picked up five hours later. At that time, the owner expressed nothing but delight and satisfaction and even took pictures and commented to myself and staff how great her dog looked.
That is exactly what happened in this case. We are all therefore, all very baffled as to why this owner would repeatedly make these false statement and then not respond to our attempts to reach out to her to better understand her concerns and try to rectify any legitimate problems that may have existed.
If any of our past or current clients have had any disappointing experiences I urge you to contact me directly and I will address them & make every attempt to rectify them. Thank you, Amanda Byron Zink, owner of "The Salty Paw."
