“felt right at home with the friendly staff and warm atmosphere.”
“honestly can't begin to articulate how horrible the food was -- but be warned: the pizza is a lump of bread; the shrimp comes in a geletin cream; and the salads use days-old iceberg lettuce (I actually like iceberg lettuce, but not on a "dulce" salad of”
“The rude bartender successfully soured our entire evening with his disgusting drinks and bad attitude.”
“The service was ok, but the meal was superb.”
“This is a great, quiet place to come for a drink or have dinner.”
“The food was very good, but unless the waitstaff gets their act together, this is not a place we'd go back to, though we live just a block away.”
“there was no snob hob attitude from the service and the food was great.”
“The mojitos and specialty martinins were top notch, the food was tasty and the portion sizes were huge.”
“The mojitos were good, but the service was outrageously slow.”
Great Experience.
Went here last week after going to a gallery opening across the street. Cozy place with good food and great drinks. My friend who had been to Candela Candela before said I had to try one of their mojitos, turned out to be really good advice. I loved the pomegranate flavor one!
As for food, we just got a couple different appetizers. The bruschetta and calamari salad were really fresh and delicious. Will come back when I am in the neighborhood.
High Quality drinks and food for reasonable prices !!. as a west coaster coming to new york my experience was a blast - i've tried the fried salmon, fired calamari, the Cuban Traditional bread cover chicken stake which was amazing, and the AMAZING RIB-EYE, the food was served with rich taste, normal waiting time, great atmosphere and finally not loud music like other places, i could finally have a nice conversation and hear my date. the service was great with courtesy, we took doggy bag and they wrapped it really nice as well, we moved to the bar afterwards which is really great cause instead going to a bar you have all in one place, the mojitos are FANTASTIC the best i've ever tried, i felt like i'm in cuba. the barman was very professional, and the most important thing for me at least is that this place is affordable for what you get, high quality drinks and food for reasonable prices.
BEST find!. I typed steak house on my phone using food finder and as I was walking there I passed Candela Candela. I stopped and read the menu and the waiter was actually outside and asked if we wanted to go in. He said it was happy hour (and a great one at that) and the food is delish. So my boyfriend and I decided to stay. The waiter was great and the food was amazing. Hands down the best food I ever had. I cant wait to go back!
Mojito Heros. I came here last friday right after work looking for a good place to get a quick drink; I was going to get a beer but this place has two-for-one mojitos until 8. I wasn't planning on staying there, but the food looked amazing and there was a jazz band setting up, so I made my friend treck over here. Because who really likes hanging out in the West Village? So we ended up getting Italian food (I got pasta w./lamb, he got a basic pizza) just as the band started playing and staying till almost the end of their set. The pasta was great, pretty huge portions, and the bread is amazing. Definitely will be back!
Good Cuban-Italian Fusion Creation.
After reading all these mediocre reviews on Yelp, I was really hesitant to come here. However, I really couldn't resist Scoutmobs' 50% off coupon. Besides, I didn't have a plan for that night so Candela Candela seemed like a good option right then.
I saw Yelp labeled this place as an Italian restaurant and I have to agree that by looking at the decor and menu, it did look like an Italian place. After another look however, you start seeing paella, plantain and other exotic dishes. I asked the waiter and it turns out this is not just Italian but also Cuban fusion.
We got the Octopus Salad, la paella and churrasco steak. The octopus salad is fresh and full of flavor. It comes in generous portion too. My la paella is a little bit wet but I am no paella expert so I don't know if it is cooked correctly or overly moist. It tastes good either way. There are a lot of shrimp, mussels and scallops.
My boyfriend's churrasco steak was very flavorful, tender and it comes with plantain chips. I think the chips were a little over-fried but overall it was a good plate.
Service was great and atmosphere was very chill. I would come back for another dining experience.
a diamond in the rough. I came in for brunch today just looking for a place with a nice selection of eggs for myself as well as lunch for my friend. I had about 10 different egg options to choose from, bloody marys and mimosas! My friend got a nice cuban sandwich and some mojitos. Everything was so good we decided to stay, drink more mojitos and then we were ready to eat more food. This time we switched to the regular menu and got the buffalo mozzarella appetizer and then we split an entree called ropa vieja. After spending hours hanging out and having fun I thought I was going to have to empty my bank account. The check was surprisingly not expensive and i couldnt have had a better time. Shout out to the staff!!
The best place in town. omg this place is A M A Z I N G !!!!!!!! it has become my favorite restaurant in this city and I can't get enough. the food is the tastiest and most flavorful EVER. the ropa vieja is a must try!! and it doesn't stop their. the drinks are strong and well worth the money!!! I got a buzz just from one. the atmoshere is the CUTEST; great place for a date. overall I highly recommend, and you will see why when you visit!!!!
AVOID!!!! Bad experience.
Avoid.. Bad bruschetta (unless soggy bread is what you desire), and happy hour saga.
Visiting New York, dropped in for 2 for 1 happy hour margaritas with my wife, only to discover it was a scam = $24 for 2 mediocre margaritas.
Not happy.. No joy in getting ripped off, no matter the hour
The sign read 2 for 1. One each right? Nope, wrong.
When I enquired after receiving our cheque, I was told by a husky voiced man, that it was bar service only. Then the owner clarified that it was 'per person'?? That every bar/restuarant in New York does it like that. Conveniently as this conversation took place, the sign was inconspicously taken inside... (Before 5pm)
This is a shifty operation people..
LOVE IT. I was there last night, and had a GREAT time, the best place in the east village to start the evening.
Great Place to go with Friends. This is a great, quiet place to come for a drink or have dinner. The bartender is extremely cute and friendly. She makes great Mojitos
