I must tell you, I live in the neighborhood and have watched this place close, open, close and open again. The latest incarnation was not so much for me when I first tried it in June, but I had dinner the other night and it was outstanding. Positively the best octopus I ever had. It was tender, juicy, succulent. I had a first rate steak and amazing grits too. I highly recommend this place. My partner had the gazpacho which was out of this world and the trout which was simply delicious and fresh. The service was good, nothing special, but the food really first rate. The place is a little homey for my liking, but who cares. The food is why i go to a restaurant. We shared a pain perdu dessert - french toast with ovaltine ice cream and bananas. Wow, is all I can say. It was really comforting.

My wife and I ate at Sheridan Square for the third time last night and I am finally writing. The food has been outstanding on every visit. Last night I had the octopus appetizer (really unique) and the trout entree - both were phenomenal. My wife had the salad with bluecheese croutons, which she loved, and the steak - she said it was the best steak she's ever had. We love the food every time we go there, as have our friends (last night was just the two of us). The service? It's improving. It's gone from clumsy (best I can say) during our first visit, to half decent our second time and last night it was actually pretty good. This is quickly becoming one of our favorite restaurants. If they ever get the service right, it may actually become #1.
