Editorial Review for Alfanoose – by Keith Wagstaff
The Scene
The words "cheap falafel" often conjures up visions of street push carts or small neighborhood takeout joints. Not so with this spacious restaurant, lined with large, polished wooden tables for the lunchtime hordes of finance professionals. The cafeteria-style service is friendly and efficient, perfect for a quick, yet satisfying, lunch.
The Food
Falafel is the main attraction: With a perfectly crispy surface and soft interior, it's available in a tightly wrapped, freshly made pita smothered in lettuce, tomato, pickles and tahini, or as part of a generous vegetarian platter. The lamb shawarma stimulates taste buds with a pleasant tang from the vinegar marinade, while the chicken shawarma impresses with its tenderness. Make sure to save room for flaky, sugary sweet baklava.
Hits: In a neighborhood not known for its dining scene, the restaurant's combination of delicious food and cheap prices is a godsend.
Misses: While service is usually quick, weekday lunch crowds can create long waits.
